I made the move from row house in the city to farm in the country.
The best advice I can give is for you to pay off your cars & credit cards. Try to get the most amount of land/house you can with no mortgage but keeping back a nest egg for emergencies.
When looking at properties, make sure the house & outbuildings are sound (foundation, electrical, heating, larger plumbing ), ignore 'cosmetics'. You can learn to live with the green paneling & puce bathroom tile if you're totally out of debt. You've got all winter to learn to lay carpet & tile, drywall, paint, etc.
Start selling stuff you don't need, start yardsailing for things you do need(canning stuff, feed bins, fencing, etc.)

Once you're on a farm, your farming neighbors will be your best resource to tell you what you will need based on the type of farming you want to do. Estate auctions are the best place to get used farm equipment. I once stood in the freezing rain for 4 hours at an auction, but I scored a John Deere 1010, a cultivator, boxes & boxes of sheets, towels & comforters for just a ridiculously tiny amount of money.

Hope this helps!
