Quick update on happenings here:
Smoke made it home safely a few days ago without a scratch on her and looking no worse for wear. We were sure that coyotes had got her since she's dog friendly. Whew! Relief is an understatement!
Doc busted the guineas in the field across the road after the first 2 went missing, we've lost a third and are guessing that they've been playing "chicken" with the local semi traffic...
Finally got "all" of the chickens back in the coop and am only missing my favorite hen (of course). It's been too dry to see any type of tracks here but I did find a large wasp nest in the coop (we've dispatched it) and wonder if that wasn't part of the problem.
dl,
I only keep flour on hand in the winter when I bake but I did scatter some food grade de around the outside of the coop in hopes of catching tracks...so the very next day we had a monsoon.
Rebbetzin,
We have advanced and made life easier with the heat...we have AC in the Broke Down Palace (aka camper). Had to have it with doc working the swing shift that he does and I have to say that I appreciate it too! We've barely gotten out of the 80's at night (it's 78 now).
We had a few cooler days (lower 90's) so I've been working on knocking down 5' tall weeds and burning small stumps out of the garden area in prep for next spring and additional raised beds.
Since our spring garden was so uneventful due to high temps and no rain, I'm working on getting seeds sown for the fall garden this coming week.
I'll continue with our Jan '10 updates in the next day or so...
