I think I might suggest a cockapoo to my daughter for a dog. I don't mind them, and think it might be a better addition to the family than a terrier type of dog.

Well a jack russel would take care of any rodent problem you might have, but cockapoos are a real nice mix. I also love border collies but a purebred one can be a little intense, I like a dog with a little BC in the mix but not full. Mine is half and she is the perfect dog.

We have a terrier beagle mix and just love her - once the chickens stood taller than her, we saw her show no interest in them at all. I've posted before on BYC that when I'm moving brush or compost piles, the dog and my two alpha hens go mouse hunting together...

I've not posted much lately cuz there's not really anything going on. Basically, I go to work, take care of the animals, do wood, do a bit of housework, play on the computer and go to bed just to do it all over again.

But, the ground hog didn't see his shadow! And, the weather has improved here. We have not gotten any new snow for several days now, though we did get a bit of freezing rain as well as rain which then froze. So that meant ice. Last Thursday and Friday, the horses where I work were left in the barn all day basically. I'm not sure how much they were out over the weekend. But, it's warmed up! We got more rain on Saturday, which helped, and we got a little rain overnight. Day time temps are now going above freezing, and I have large bare patches in my yard! I can hardly wait until it's all gone. My yard has not been completely snow free since Christmas! That is so unusual for this area.

I'm still getting some eggs, just not everyday. I'm getting maybe 3 or 4 a week. I'm hoping that someone else starts to lay soon so that I get an egg everyday. Right now, it seems like if I have a chicken that lays, RU doesn't. And, if she has a chicken that lays, I don't.

I'm not going to the hay auction today. It's just not worth it. Hay has been going for quite a bit lately, and I can get it for $30.00/RB. I don't have to haul it to the farm, which saves my truck. I'm still having problems w/it.

I still haven't found anyone to teach me how to walk me thru butchering my roos, so I'm just going to have to figure it out on my own. They're 19 weeks old now, and I wanted them done b4. So, if the weather is nice on Saturday, I might do it then.

I hear you the boring part of life. sometimes there's just not much but routine going on. I just have remind myself it could be a lot worse.

Good to hear the weather is coming around for you. Soon the trees will be budding and spring will be on its way.

I have been putting off butchering for years. But I saved this link once because I thought it was really good. Not sure if you have seen it but here ya go.

We're lucky Big G's uncle used to process tons of pheasants and other game birds back in the day. He's shown us how and has offered to help us any other time we need it. I had about 4 roos that I wanted to process, but we had a massacre back in December and are now down to 4, 2 of which I refuse to kill and the other 2 are backups in case 1 of the first 2 die of old age soon.

We just butchered our first roo a month or so ago ......it is all a learning curve, right? Everyone on here was so helpful.

The bad thing is? My DH KNOWS how to do it, he just doesn't WANT to.
