@DenimDeb all i can say is yes... spend as much time as you can with your mom and dad because when they are gone its to late. i miss my mom so much, this is my first holiday without her and its hard. and @Britesea i can so relate, since mom died it just seems like stuff is just not worth doing. if i didn't have to go out to take care of the animals I'm not sure if i would ever leave the house. have to get over this because i know beyond a shadow of a doubt mom wouldn't want me to be this way
I know that I will miss my parents when I lose them, but I believe that I will see them again one day. Death is only a temporary separation.
So much for a holiday. I got up this morning, and did dishes then went to the farm. I really wish KN had told me that she was planning on going to the farm, I would have had her feed my guys. Instead, I had to wait around for them to eat, and didn't want to get involved in doing anything since I needed to go back home. So I cleaned the run in while I was waiting.
The one thing I didn't think to get yesterday that I wanted was whipped cream, so I had to get that on my way home. I stopped first in a convenience store. They didn't have any! There were 2 more that I could stop at on the way home, and was planning to do that when I suddenly remembered the small grocery store in the one town I had to go thru. And, I knew it was opened cuz they were talking about it in Bible study on Tuesday, so I stopped in and got my whipped cream.
Got home and hubby hadn't touched the fire, so I had to get that going. Plus I wanted to relax for a bit, so I got on the computer for a bit. Then, I started working. I got a pumpkin pie made and in the oven. Then I got 2 loafs of banana bread made and got them in the oven. Then I made apple crisp, and just barely managed to fit that in the oven as well. While that was all cooking, I got the dehydrator filled up. I had 2 buckets full of stuff for the compost, so I went and dumped that in. Then, once everything was done cooking, I took the apple peels and fed them to the goats and went back to the farm to give Stormy his 2nd feeding.
When I got home, I fed the animals, then came in and did the fire again. Hubby hadn't touched it. Then, I got more dishes done! I think, other than some that I just made and some that have food in them, the dishes are all done.
W/the dishes done, I got my shower and was finally able to sit down, eat and relax. Dinner was good, so I'm sitting here watching the Eagles/Cowboys game. Go Eagles! It's the 4th quarter, and the Eagles are up 33 to 10.
I still have to put food away, stuff the stove and change the sheets, but other than that, I'm done for the day.
Today is going to be colder w/more wind. And I actually don't mind it for once. The cold and the wind will help dry up the farm. When I fed CL's horses yesterday, I had to shut a gate to keep some minis horses, donkey and a mule out. And the mud was like thick soup. I may be able to do manure today if I go in the neighbor's field, but I sure can't go thru RU's fields to dump it. I'd get stuck.
Today promises to be another busy day. But at least I don't have to feed my guys this morning. KN is going to the farm early, so she said she'd feed my guys. And CL is supposed to be there today, so I don't have to feed her guys either. I have a couple of stores I want to hit-including a tack shop that's having a big sale. But, it's in the opposite direction from the farm. This way, I'll be able to go there first, then TSC (they have boots on sale), then the feed store-providing they've gotten Stormy's feed in. I can also get a load of clothes out on the line, and do some housework. Hubby's left for work, so I should really get started. So, my list for today is:
1. Laundry
2. Housework
3. Stores
4. Normal farm chores
5. Clean field if it's not too muddy to get to the back
6. Work w/and ride Misty
7. Goat pen
8. Yard/garden/orchard
9. Firewood
10. Dishes
This looks like a good list for today, so I guess I should be getting busy.
Today was a day when I didn't get much done on my list. I had KN text me, then CL called me. That took up time. Then when I was hanging out my clothes, my sister called me. I was on the phone for quite some time w/her. She's worried about my mom and feels bad cuz she's so far away. I told her some of the things that I'm planning on doing and also found that she has the same concern that I do for my dad if something should happen to my mom. Hubby also called, so then I had to talk to him. Then I called my brother and we're coming up w/a plan for keeping an eye on my parents since we're the only 2 in the area. So, I left a lot later than I'd planned on. Got to the first store, and bought some stuff, then went to the bank for hubby, then went to TSC. I also called the feed store to see if they had gotten Stormy's feed in. They hadn't, so I got a bag in TSC. I also got new boots!
From there, I stopped in another tack store-got nothing then headed to the farm. It took me longer at the farm than I was expecting. First off, I couldn't park. KN was parked in front of my trailer. CL was parked next to it, but not back very far. And a friend of her's was also parked in such a way that there was no way for me to park. I tried parking in the lane, but could see that that wouldn't work very well. PT wasn't there yet, and she parks down back where her horses are. W/me in the lane, she wouldn't have been able to get past me. So I had to wait for CL to move her car, then I very cautiously backed in. I just barely had enough room to get in w/out hitting anyone and still be able to open my doors. Then of course, everyone had to talked to me for several minutes.
I was finally able to get Stormy fed, got the chickens taken care of, and bagged feed. It was freezing cold out there, so I didn't even attempt to ride. Nor did I do anything w/the field. I just wanted to get home.
Got home, relaxed for a bit, then hubby and I went shopping. I still can't find my watch, so I bought another one. I'm lost w/out it. By the time we got home, it was too dark for me to do anything outside, except feed the animals.
Don't know what all we're doing tomorrow, but I hope to get more done both inside and outside. I need to get my living room cleaned by next Sunday. That's when I want to decorate for Christmas.
It's cold out there! I'm not sure what I'm getting done because I'll be tripping over hubby today. You'd think w/2 people, I'd get more done, but nope, I get less done. Some things have to be done, like firewood. I'm almost out of what I did the other day. But since it's supposed to warm up for Sunday and Monday, what I get done today will last longer. Hubby and I are going to a flea market, but since KN has to work today and we go right past the farm, I'll be feeding my horses first. And we want to get honey. We've been buying it at the flea market, but if we go home the one way, we go right past where it comes from. So, we'll probably get the honey on the way home.
Hubby is talking about doing some housework together. I hope it happens. He's also talking about looking to see what I have in the way of wood at the farm. I want the lean to for my mower built. Plus I want the wood out of my feed stall. It makes it very difficult to keep it neat in there and since I have it stacked w/the feed cans on top, it's hard for me to get feed in the cans. He's talking about working on the lean to tomorrow as well as getting the other window in. And since it's going to be cold out, I want to work on getting my greenhouse all clean and set up. So, my list for today is:
I actually got 2 pairs. I got a pair of Ariat Terrains. Normally I buy them at the tack store because they're waterproof. But, even though they were on sale, they were way more expensive than the normal one. I don't really need them to be waterproof, so I went w/the cheaper boots. And, I also got a pair of rain boots. I can wear them if it's wet out. The 2 of them combined weren't as expensive as the waterproof Araits, so I figure I did good.
We left a lot later than I thought we were. But I think hubby was happy when I showed him where to buy honey. He'd been buying it at the flea market. I kept telling him that we could get it cheaper by buying it direct and kept telling him where the place was. He finally listened, so now he knows where to buy it.
When we got to the flea market, he didn't want to walk all thru it. He had something he wanted to buy, and I had something I wanted to buy, so we split up and got what we wanted. Then we headed to Wally World. I wanted a new tree. The one we have is a beautiful tree but I didn't realize when we got it that it was as heavy as it is, or as full. He wanted to get one that we saw in the box only at a different WW, but i thought would be too small. they had it set up in this one, and i was right. We did find one that we both liked.
Went to another store and got a new printer for my computer. There is nothing wrong w/my computer except that it needs a new color cartridge and I can't find one in the stores. But, for less than the price of a new color and a new black cartridge, we were able to buy a new, better printer. I have a pattern I need to print up for a present I want to make, and haven't been able to do so because I had no color ink. Now I can get the pattern printed, and make the gift.
Went back to the farm, gave Stormy his 2nd feeding, took care of the chickens and came home. Got the fire going, then went and cleaned part of the goat pen, and fed animals. By then, it was getting late. I worked a bit in the garden, then went and worked in the greenhouse. I made a big dent in that, so hopefully I'll have it all cleaned out soon. And I think that might be the best place for me to process my roosters now. Every time I have the time to do it, it's too cold out. So, if I do it in there, I can stay warm. W/that done, I did a bit of firewood. I had done some this morning as well, so that means I got the wood holder about half full. I'm not overly sure that I'm going to have enough wood after all. I've already used about a cord. It's been so much colder than normal that I'm burning more than usual.
I didn't do any housework or dishes. I'll do the dishes in the morning.
i have a pair of ll bean boots that i wear to the barn when its wet and i love them. rubber bottoms and leather uppers. I've had mine for years and if they ever wear out ll bean will repair or replace them for free. sounds like you had a full day
Today is Sunday, so I'm hoping to take it a bit easier. Plus, it's supposed to be warmer. I'm hoping I don't need to have a fire the whole day. Other than church, dishes and normal animal chores, I don't know that I'll be doing anything. I think I have enough wood in the house for overnight, especially since it's going to be warmer today and tomorrow. And, I should be able to take the bike tomorrow! Oh, and since I have the farrier coming tomorrow and I normally give him a loaf of chocolate chip banana bread, I'll probably make that up so I can leave early tomorrow.
