As much as saving a buck is a great idea for home dvds etc.....I know I have to get out of the house every now and then, so paying for a movie is worth it to me.

Not a big time theater fan, maybe saw my last movie about 4 years ago...LOL...as much as I love to save a buck, I need to spend some to enjoy life and 'get out' of the farm!

I love very short trips to the city, love short trips to the beach, love a change of scenery, but real fast I want home!

My DH takes me out on a lunch date once a week so I get out of the house and we can spend time together. He does shift work at a steel mill on twelves so we don't see eachother a whole lot. And sometimes I go down the street to the neighbers house since she stays home to and help her with her dogs.

Morelcabin brought up a good point in that being more SS doesn't allow us as much time to be social. I get frustrated sometimes how often I need to say no to something because I'm going to market, working in the garden, canning... One reason I've enjoyed teaching my sister how to can--socializing and work at the same time--whoo-hoo!!! Let's convert them all!

I seem to be the only one who wants to put the effort out and feels very strongly that it needs to be done before things get to bad.
Gosh, you hit the nail on the head for me...I feel the exact same way. I feel like things in our world are about to change in a significant way and everyone around me is just cruising along, completely oblivious.

We started out with a garden & then added cattle, then a lamb & then the chickens. Throw in homeschooling & all the house work too. And tell me who has time for a job outside the home? I work 24/7 it seems as I dream about how to make things better or easier sometimes.:ep
We started because we were not happy with the food we were getting in the stores & now I really see it as a necessary(sp?) means of survival for our families future. So this is my job for the rest of my life.:love

Let's see... I recently got a not so nice email from a soon to be former brother in law, who basically told me I have no right to speak on the subject at hand, after all, I "ran away to re-invent yourself like some kind of know it all"....

The original subject was not relevant here, but what I pulled out of it from him that there's something "not quite right" about people trying to do what "we" do... Grow and raise food, live closer to the earth, live more simple-- whatever our idea of self sufficiency is ( I know we all pick and choose where we're going with it).

I literally laughed as I read it. Re-inventing is not wrong, nor is our choice to take a step back and try not to take more than we need, and even make a positive contribution to the earth and ourselves.

I suppose it's like any other lifestyle choice. I don't expect anyone to condone or approve my choices. It's not for anyone else to decide or even be concerned with as far as I see. If you want to know more about what I'm doing-- ask and I'll share as much as I know. If not, keep your comments to yourself, and I'll do the same about your lifestyle choices.

I don't find it lonely, because I have a lot here-- in my home, and in my life, to keep me busy and keep me from being lonely. My husband is probably more on board with this than I am. We're 6 months into our "newly re-invented life" and loving it and learning more every day!

Welcome NurseNettie!

I agree, nothing wrong with wanting to re-invent yourself. And since he's soon to be a former brother in law, who cares what he thinks? ;)

What I have found is people tend to judge us harshly if we go against the grain...or if we choose not to have modern conviences...They act like we must live and fit a certain mold...hate to tell them, I could care less about keeping up with the Jones'!
