For most of them I send a bunch of pics and whatever info they asked for. For this one I gave her a brief history of the guesthouse, what we did here, why we're selling and the low price (MIL's health). This place is ideal for someone like them who's thinking business/B&B. Most of our buyers so far were looking for either a retirement home, or a lock-up-and-go weekend home and this place is too big for either.
Still waiting for news, but in the meantime I've gone looking for a property that was for sale literally around the corner from where we lived previously in Ireland. It's still for sale and it's price dropped by about 70% from when we saw it last:
This area is VERY expensive and VERY nice. I know the neighbouring towns and area very well and am shocked how much prices have dropped over there as well, though it seems Ballylickey managed to hang on to it's value for the most part. It would actually be worth spending the extra and tackling restoring a place like this. Definitely something to consider..
It does, but what the pics doesn't show is when we were there last, one of the bedrooms' ceiling was lying on the bed That place needs a spot of work... But the area is wonderful.
I've send the agent an email, asking if the owners may be open to negotiations and on the off chance that they will be, if he could give me a rundown of what needs doing to this place. I'm going to wait and see if he replies now (sometimes they don't bother if you email them). If I haven't heard back from him by the time we have a confirmed buyer for our place, I'm going to phone him.
I've actually spoken to him about this property 2 years ago and we went and viewed it, as a possible rental. He told me then to under offer (a 1/3 of the then asking price of around 275,000). Apparently the owners live abroad and lost interest in the place? So they may just be willing to do a deal with us? It would take a lot of time and money to restore it to it's former glory, but the benefits of living in an area that I know very well, with friends who are willing to help me over there are worth considering..
having friends around to help, both with work and just for moral support is a great thing. i agree with FEM, its going to be a major undertaking to get it back together. with this being a more desirable area are the taxes more, the cost of living? or is it about the same thru out the country.?
Goatgurl, I didn't look into taxes yet, I will when the time comes. In the cities I'd imagine you'd pay a lot more than out in the sticks, where I'm looking.
Still waiting to hear from Jacky and if/when they're coming I phoned and asked the agent what happened to the people he told us about on Monday... They told him they really want our place, we mustn't sell it please! Hmm, one of those... Well, for some reason they haven't made a plan to get their backsides out here to come look at our place and talk to us? I told the agent whoever puts the money on the table first gets the place. I'm not holding out for big mouths that don't follow up. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
