Duck hatching day!

We now have ducks too, and I'm really really enjoying them! During the day, they have free range in the garden. They spend much of their day under the okra, which effectively hides them from any potential hawk. We have runner ducks, and their soft conversations with each other is pleasing to hear. They are GREAT foragers and they don't snack on my veggies or tear up my plants like the chickens do. What's not to like about them?

We even found out that duck eggs are (apparently) even better for cancer patients than chicken eggs are.
Mine are Chocolate Runners. I have 4 (not laying yet.)


@Jeffeff95 your duck pictures are adorable! Does he/she have a name?

We didnt know what gender it was so we decided to name it "Duck" for now LOL! We have realized now it is a female so we will be changing her names soon. We recently hatched 2 more ducks about 2 months ago so now they are out with her (She has become the mom). Those 3 plus 2 young chickens I have all free roam around our yard (the chickens are duck's best friends, if I dont put them all together at night she will SCREAM!). Will post pics soon as possible!

We also just hatched Some runners too! I will have to ask the girlfriend what exact breed but they are very young yet.

I took mine down to the creek for the first time yesterday. They had a GREAT time digging up the bottom and generally playing in the mud and water. The spot they were playing in was just under the hawks nest so I stayed to supervise. I'll try to add some pictures later.

@Jeffeff95 I hope you take pictures. Ours were already 3 1/2 months old before we got them so we missed that baby stage.

I definitely will!
Our smallest ones will be outside in the next couple of weeks after the expansion on my fence is complete.
They are in a crate in my house but when I get home from work they get to go outside to hang out with the big ducks!
The only issue I have run into is my Duck randy (Male Mallard) hates all of the new ducks, he will purposely find a way out of the fence just to try to attack. Thats why that group gets to free range all day!

Nice pictures! And you seem to have plenty of room for them to roam too. Very nice! You seem to have more than one kind of duck. How many do you have total?

Yup! There is quite a bit of room. The fence you can see in the back is the actual pen but these ones get to roam free on the acreage. I have 1 mallard, 1 Pekin and the 3 in the pic are pekin mallard crosses. We also have 3 saxony itching to go outside lol! What breed of ducks do you have?

I have 4 Indian Runners. @Beekissed has Runners and I think, 1 Pekin. She says it sounds like laughter when it quacks!

Here, the ducks free roam in the garden. The chickens free roam in the yard (they have about 6 acres or so to roam since the neighbor always throws stuff out for them so she can watch them.) I bring the ducks over for her every few days.
