Something I did for my chickens when it was so blazing hot here was take a lid from one of those big rubbermaid tubs and turn it upside down so it would hold water.... aka a little chicken sized wading pool. They loved it and would walk / stand / lay in it.

I used to put a bird bath in with the chickens. I do have something shallow. It would be worth trying. I had hoped that they would like the tub I put in there, but I think it is too deep.

Ok, I put a shallow pan in the chickenyard and put about an inch of water in it. I placed it in the spot where most of them were crowded together. We'll see if they have enough sense to get into it
I dunked a few more in the tub too.
Checked the temp in the rabbit pen 111 degrees :ep

The rabbit is now inside with us in a nice roomy dog kennel. He seems to appreciate it. He is munching on his hay. It's only 83 in the house.

When it was so hot this summer and our AC conked out, I took ice packs with me to bed wrapped in a towel. It really helped out. I just used those reusable ice packs that you throw in lunch boxes. It felt really good on my feet and my stomach. I don't know if that idea helps you out at all but thought I'd send it your way!

Fortunately it has been cooling off enough at night to be comfortable. When I slept in the tent, it felt downright cold. It was pretty balmy outside this evening.
This summer FIL actally sprung for a new roof. They found that the asphalt shingles had been put on lath with big spaces in between. So they put plywood up and then the roofing. It makes a huge difference in the inside temp of the house.

Tomorrow the bottle babies go to another foster home. I will miss them, but I have enough to do, so I wont miss them too much.

I was happy to find out that the killer of a wonderfull and talented local guitar builder was convicted today. Taku Saka****a was a friend of my ex, also a guitar builder. My DD (she works for her dad, my ex) would often speak of him, so I was very familiar with him. This creep deprived our world of a sweet, kind, generous and extremely talented individual.

Hey FD :frow

Just thought I would send you up some love! How's the weather today?

We were plenty warm yesterday but had cooled off considerably!

My chickens used to appreciate a sprikler running in their run....they wouldn't actually go under it on purpose, but the spray drifted and cooled them down.

I hope you have a great day :thumbsup

Hi Denise!

You are a very strong woman and I'm proud that you know you need to do something different! Lot's of people don't or are too scared to do anything.

I was hoping things were getting better between you two, but I guess not.. It sounds like you have to choose between the lesser of two evils, on opposite sides of the country. That can't be fun. I honestly don't know what I would do in that situation. :hugs

I'm lighting a candle!

When I worked with "at risk" children and children with mental issues we used to graph their behaviors. You could do that with a simple calendar.

We found a lot of behavior to be cyclic. Sometimes the behavior was based on a nearly forgotten (or repressed) trauma. Sometimes the seasons actually were to blame. Such as depression increasing as the day light grows shorter.

Maybe with a little sleuth work you could figure it out and help him.
