Oh no, I had just about finished writing about my trip and I lost it!
I had a great time and I'll update everyone tomorrow.
I have been trying to catch up on everyone's journals, but that will take more time than I have right now.
I am glad to be back.

So it is raining and kind of chilly here today. I peeled and cut up a mess of potatoes, picked and sliced up a bunch of peppers and also cut up a few onions in preparation for tonight's dinner. SO took some sausages out of the freezer. We'll be having sausages with peppers and onions and mashed potatoes and fresh corn on the cob.

I am thinking of making some sort of desert, maybe a pastry filled with peach jam.

I had a great trip. I was greeted at the airport by my nephews, who were much taller and hairier than I remembered them. I had a hard time recognizing my brother, because he removed his facial hair, which made him look so much younger. DS, her honey and SIL were there too. DB and SIL had arrived 2 hours earlier and they all waited for me. We took two cars to get home to the folks.

SIL brought everything but including the kitchen sink (her statement, not mine) and I told everyone I traveled light, because I knew SIL had everything I might need. Turns out we are the same size and I did borrow a nice pair of dressy slacks from her. First time I wore a pair of pants that fit properly in many years :p

We went for lots of walks. Told stories of the crazy stuff we did when we all lived there. Had visits from friends, who helped us remember more crazy stuff. Ate mom's most delicious cooking, helped with clean up and did a bit of cooking ourselves.

We also went to the Iroquois Museum. All of us who went really enjoyed it. http://www.iroquoismuseum.org/index.html I learned a bit more about self suffciiency.

We also went to a place called Hartmann's Kaffee House in Round Top NY. I worked there one summer after high school. The food is to die for and the cakes and pastries......out of this world. Everyone had 2 pieces ( could eat mine there and took my cream puff home). Then Mom and DS picked out 2 cakes to take home and a box of pastries and cookies. So we had more of those wonderful sweet treats all week long. http://www.hartmannskaffeehaus.com/

Dad's 80 birthday party couldn't have been synchronized better if we had hired professionals to do it for us. Well , actually DS, SIL and I all have professional experience putting on events. We are all very meticulous and managed not to get upset with each other. Instead we worked hand in hand. DS's eldest son was a great help also. He fit right in. He got those inscribed wineglasses perfectly alined on the table. He placed cardboard under the table legs to make sure they were all even. We used the beautiful fall foliage that we had collected on several walks and seedheads from the spent flowers, twigs and wild asters for decorations.
The event was held in the banquet room of a local chinese restaurant. That way we didn't have to do any food prep and we did not have to concern ourselves with people different diet habits. There was something for everyone. They even steamed vegetable for the kosher vegan who attended.

The nephews performed a song the eldest nephew wrote for his grandfather. A friend joined them with his guitar. Another friend supplied an amp and microphone. Lots of people took pictures and video. I got to see friends I hadn't seen in years and meet some of my parents' friends.

I laughed so much during my visit my cheeks still hurt. I feel I connected with my family and I know they all feel the same.

I did miss my self sufficient life a little bit. I pointed out to mom that the cream she was buying had stuff other than cream in it. SIL and mom turned me onto quinoa. SIL made a most wonderful dish with it.
We taught mom and dad how to eat an artichoke.

We picked apples from the tree in front of mom's house. I climbed into it and gathered the apples that were out of reach of the apple picker. Just as we were done, Dad came out with the apple picker. He was a little miffed that we did not need his services, but he got over it by dinner time, when we served homemade apple sauce ;)

We even spotted a deer on one of our evening walks. It was silhouetted against the night sky for a few minutes, before it scampered off.

I happened to be booked on the same flight as DB and SIL for the return trip as far as Las Vegas.

I have hugged my goats, smooched the chickens, scratched the rabbit and let the dog on my bed.

I also picked a ton of tomatoes, which I will now need to can. But it is good to be back home. I think I'll see what I can whip up for desert. SO loves it when I make sweet baked goodies.

Welcome home! Sounds like a great trip, and wonderful birthday party.
I thought it might be fun for DH to see all the goodies at Hartmann's, but have now decided against it - He loves Bienenstich and Nussecken and Marzipan in all forms, and I can't do that to him

I had several pieces of Bienenstich and shared a Nussecken, and a coconut thingy and my creampuff, had some applfelstrudel and poppyseed cake too. I don't care too much for the marzipan, so I left those for DB and DN ;)

My hyperglycemic diet went to you know where...out the window but it was worth it :drool
I couldn't sleep any of the nights, that I ate those sweets. Now I have to go back to my healthier foods ;)
