My siblings and I all live on the west coast. We also have always gotten along, with a few minor skirmishes on the way. We absolutely love that our partners also get along and all the kids like each other too. Well we haven't met DB's stepchild, but my DD, SO's DS and my nephews (DS's boys) all get along very well.
It makes for fun family gatherings.

I have been sooo busy since I got back.

We had a rainstorm that kind of caught us by surprise and it dumped more than 6 inches. many of our crops got knocked down by the wind and rain. I picked what might be the last of our summer squash in the rain, because it was floating in a pond.
In the days that followed we harvested what we could: sweet corn to be dried for seed, flour and feed, broomcorn, assorted beans, pumkins, cucumbers, peppers etc. The chickens, goats and rabbit got a lot of goodies, due to this quicky harvest. The rats got into our sunflower seeds that were drying in a cart, so we had to bring them inside to finish drying. Lots of things are now in the hous proper in an attempt to dry them and keep them safe from rats and mice.
While frantically trying to save our crops, I discovered that my favorite young roo was unwell, the dog still has her skin problem and the kitty still has bloody urine. So I needed to treat everyone for their assorted ailments, plus catching up on the things the guys didn't do, that needed to be done while I was away.
It is raining again now.

I have tomato sauce simmering on the stove. It is the beginning of my three day sauce to be canned. SO helped me chop up the vegies this afternoon. Yesterday I canned 13 pints of salsa. My little roo died last night. The cat and dog are getting better.
We set up a better shelter for the goats to stay out of the rain.
I got the purple queen beans shelled and finshing drying in a metal bowl on the woodstove, same for the first batch of cranberry beans.

There is a big container of sweet corn that I need to go through and another of sunflower seeds. I just really don't want any of it to mold.

Now I am off to play some computer games. ;)

Oh and jsut incase I didn't have enough with all of the above, I am also working on my deerhide :p

:hugs

Man you have been busy. Sorry to hear about your roo and your storm. :(

Hopefully the rest of the animals will get quickly well and the simmering sauces will bring a little sunshine into your home. :)

Today was gloomy, but not too much rain.

We had brought a very large bucket of sweet corn into the house so the rats wouldn't get into it. Last night I got worried that it might sweat and get moldy, so I suggested to SO that I stack it on the mantel above the stove. I am sure glad I did that, because it was starting to mold. I caught it just in time. It looks a bit funny on top of the mantel, but it was the best place to put it to keep it dry :p
I set a pumpkin on top of it to try and make it look more like fall decor...

I put lots of tomatoes through the blender and filled my sauce pot up to the top. The house sure smells nice with that sauce simmering on the stove.

I think I need to rack my wine real soon. I have to get some clean bottles out. It feels so cool to have made wine from my own grapes. I can hardly wait to taste it and share it.

We also need to go through our garlic and pick out the best ones for planting and store the rest in a dry but cool place. Not an easy thing for us to do.

We are do for some more warm sun-shiney weather and that will mean a lot more work to be done.

I haven't even been able to visit with DD. Nor have I sorted through my photos from my NY trip. I took a bit of a break today and surfed the internet and ate Doritos.

SO is making fake salmon for dinner with wild rice and carrots from the garden. I am making a tomato and cucumber salad.

Happy Samhain to you too, dragonlaurel
and to everyone else!

I hope it won't rain tomorow, so I can do my ceremony outside.
