You sure have been busy. I need to be but its been in the teens here lately. Southern weather is so strange. Iced up waterers in the morning, everyone freezing and in the afternoons everything is thawed out, and all the chickens are panting. (well maybe not quite that drastic but close).

Awwww.... to heck with all the work I need to do. Think I will join you in a glass of wine and just read some more.

FD, at least you didn't have a goat on your back! If I'm in the goat pen, and need to bend down for any reason, I can be pretty sure that Gidget, my Nigerian dwarf cross will jump on my back. She thinks it's an open invitation for her. :/

OFG, don't be surprised, if you find me standing at your front door one day, goats and a coupla chickens in the backseat of my car, of course ;)

Denim Deb, fortunately for me, someone warned me not to let my cute baby goats jump on us when they were little and I listened to the advice. I managed to teach the girls not to jump on me. They do still try to occasionally, but they get knocked back each time. For the most part they are pretty good about not jumping on people.

We have some major nasty weather predicted. Big rainstorm, lasting about a week. When the city is offering sandbags, you know things will probably get bad.
I am somewhat concerned about the goats, since we really don't have a very good shelter for them. They have a little "house" they can fit into, barely. I am afraid with continous rain, it will start to leak. In case of an emergency we could put the girls in the dog pen. But the rabbit is already housed in there and we are afraid the goats would destroy the rabbit's habitat. We'll just keep our finger's crossed. I had hoped that someone would have stepped up by now and built a better goat house....

When I went out to feed everyone this morning, Blossom was definitely not acting her usual self. She pretty much remained standing on the tire and wood stump pile and was "flagging" her tail with her nose to the wind. She didn't even check to see what kind of yummies I was bringing. I really think she is looking for that buck. I have to really get on it and figure out what I am going to do about that.

Today I have a Solstice ceremony to attend. So I will be preparing my carrots for the dinner. I dug them up the other day and gave them a preliminary wash. Now to scrub them and cut them up and cook them with some parsley. I am also trying to figure out what to wear. The ceremony is being held with a new group and in a different place that I am unfamiliar with. I am really looking forward to it. I find it spritually very grounding and elevating at the same time. I don't often have the opportunity to join others in spiritual affirmations.

I also need to go to the store and replenish my vitamins and wine and I want to treat myself to some delicious real whole grain bread (schwartzbrot or pumpernickel)

And I need to bake more cookies. The dough is already made. I just need to do the baking part. If the kids come home, I might get them to do the cutout cookies. I know they will enjoy that. I'll have to make some icing for them though. We'll see how it goes.

You should see our house. We got herbs, grains, seeds and peppers drying all over, christmas decoration boxes everywhere, damp laundry draped over the furniture and several milk crates of wood sitting near the stove. The kitchen is a mess thanks to my cookie baking. The laundry room is piled high with raingear and wet shoes already. This room doubles as our pantry too, but we ran out of room on the shelves, so a lot of it sits on the floor and has spilled into other areas of the house.

I think I'll run to the store first, before the next big storm hits.

Hey FD! A weeks worth of rain? That doesn't sound common for this time of year. Maybe it will hold off or not be as bad as predicted...

Hope you have a good time at your Solstice ceremony.

Rain rain rain, it's coming!!! We are just starting to get a bit of drizzle here and there. Dh works up in Orange County. He said it's been raining all morning. The news man said yesterday they are expecting between 5 to 10 inches in central Ca. Jeesh that's a lot of rain. From the radar I saw on the news the storm seems to be coming across the Pacific. Kinda like the Pineapple Express but cold. Ugg!!!

Stay warm and dry.

It's cold and dark. At 3pm. We usually have bad storms in January, not December. But then nothing has been the usual this year as far as the weather is concerned.

At least I got my shopping done. Picked up a bottle of brandy, so I can make some eggnog :drool
Now I won't care if it rains all week

Gotta go out and feed the critters. The rain is holding off so far. Blossom is definitely in heat!!! I looked on CL for bucks. There are some around the greater bay area. I am not willing to drive 3 hours to get my doe serviced though. But I marked my calendar for today, so I can plan for the deed next month.
There were even some prize bucks for sale at $250. I really don't care about the lineage. I plan on selling the kids for meat or whatever. My girls are mutts and I am not into raising show goats, nor will I keep any. 2 goats is all we can handle on our little place.

Ok, better get out there, before the wet stuff comes down.

Yeah I hate when it rains while the critters have to be taken care of.
