Is it football season already? I thought that was a winter sport.

Yeah, it's football season already - area high school games started last night. NFL is in week 3 of preseason. Football is more of a "fall" sport.

Oh. Yeh that makes sense. I remember the kids in school had games as soon as school started again.

I'm happy so many folks are safe and sound with the weaker-than-expected storm, what a relief.

So in between all the running around this weekend, I've started harvesting black beans. All summer, the chickens have ignored that section of the garden. All is good.

As I have been going down the bean rows, I've been cleaning up as I went, no issues so far.

I go out tonight to pick another bowl full of beans, and I find....

The hens have literally destroyed 4' or so each of all three rows that I had not picked yet. While they were at it, they "re"discovered the pristine, soft, beckoning topsoil layers which are my potato hills. 5' of potatoes are laid bare, even though the plants are still green. :th raked the soil back over them, because I don't have time for that tonight. Some corn had blown down and I caught one of the girls climbing up the downed stalk to eat on an ear of corn, still on the stalk.

Don't ask me about my 'maters...... :(

I have three acres, they have plenty of room. The more I think about it, it might be because they saw me in there for a few hours this weekend. "the big guy is the provider of yummy stuff" - wherever he is, a buffet can't be far away.

We just have 3 or 4 I cant remember but the way ours is landscaped and set up it feels like ten. Do they mob behind you when you walk away?
