I think I need to just "let things be" for most of today, it's still pretty upset, breathing pretty hard. I was able to get within 4 feet before the business end got pointed my way, I guess my sweet-talking is only so good. I have a piece of heavy plastic I can use as a shield and drape over the trap. I can then prop the door open as I stand by the side of the trap, exposing my hands/arms at most.

Biggest challenge is to keep the stupid dogs away from the trap.

I'm not worried so much personally about being sprayed, been sprayed before, but I work in an office and would need to take days off if I got nailed this time.

That thing is HUGE. From the size, I first thought it was a raccoon when I looked out the window this morning.

I don't know much about traps, but is there any way you can open it with a long pole or something so that you don't actually have to be standing by it? Good luck!

Summer is well underway....

After an awesome Sat/Sun, DS's baseball team is headed to the divisional championship next weekend.

Kids are gearing up for church camps.

Struggling to keep the garden watered, but things are moving along. I spotted 4 zuchinni's on a plant in the back garden. :)

Sour cherries ordered for pick up next week. Just waiting for the blueberries to ripen here.

Have a great week everyone!
I hope your DS's team does well this week-end! Our dgs won their first game monday 10-0, and had to play 2 games last night. I am still waiting to hear what the results were..... the team was undefeated after monday night's game.

Are you getting any of this rain we have gotten. It is nice not to have to water the gardens, but I could use without the destructive winds...

Sour cherries and blueberries..... yummy! Sour cherries are going for $4/quart here at the local farm stands.

ETA: skunks... eeewwwww

The rain has been nearly perfect here, without most of the wind. It could rain a little longer, but I'll take it.

We order from a farm market down SE of Ravenna. $21 for a 10 lb tub of sour cherries.

Okay, I have been working on a varmit problem. This morning I find a huge skunk in the live trap. I really don't want to kill it, since it is not the critter I'm after, and they do eat grubs out of the front yard.

Any advice on how to release it, without it "releasing" on me?
Chemical suit. Seriously, there is no way for it to not feel threatened and spray. If your aren't going to kill it, you may have to suit up. Plastic is permeable, so I wouldn't go that route. They spray an oil, so maybe coat some plastic in soap and use it as a sheild and flip the trap open :hu I'm at a loss here...never had that issue, but I would probably kill it myself. When you reset the trap, maybe you should have a safe distance trigger mechanism to open the door back up in case you get another one. Wish I could help more than that, but I have no ideas.

DS won't go near it - even tried to use it as an excuse not to mow the grass. :)

Two of the chickens got out and they are circling the trap....stupid chickens. :p

Its one of those hav-a-hart traps, so unless I re-engineer the trap, a mercy killing may be the only one. I think I'll pop over to the vet next door and borrow his .22 handgun. The critter will release when it dies, so I just there is no way around it. :sick I hoped I could add "skunk whisperer" to my resume. :D

Updates later.
