Farmfresh City Homesteader - the sound of falling oaks.

I have a permaculture onion patch. I continually plant new sets and divide old bulbs all summer. I like to direct harvest until the ground freezes hard, so I have lots of onions still in the ground at lots of different stages.
Can you go into more detail on this for me? I have an onion patch that I planted from sets, and I have a packet of seeds that needs to be planted now for sets for next year. I may change my plans depending on what you tell me.

As for dehydrating....the store has vidalia's right now for....$0.89 per pound, is that worth dehydrating? I have no clue, never did onions. I always buy my dehydrated onion flakes and powder, it is time to do up my own. I haven't really paid attention to prices in this area, I just go buy an onion or two when I need one and don't have any in the house.

I have a permaculture scallion patch that I am extending. I will be doing garlic for the first time this fall.....permaculture, too?

Oh man CHIGGERS!!!!!

I remember those from when we lived in TN. Thank goodness we don't have them in Ohio!!!!

Okay,..call me dumb. What exactly is a chigger? I have heard my DH talk about them. Thats a shame, I have been raised up in the country and have no idea what a chigger is,..I'll blame it on my mother.LOL!:gig

That is awful! I don't even know if we have them here in our area. I know I have never had nothing like that bite me. Mosquitoes and ticks are bad here,..well not so much now that we have chickens eating the ticks and we dug a pond so the frogs eat the mosquitoes. I just hate bugs! Thanks for the info on them,..I will have to find out if we have them here or not.

Chiggers are no fun! Every time I pick blackberries I wind up with the darn things....you think I'd learn by now
