When Grandma died there were 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Funny thing was that she had enough quilts in her house for all of us to get at least 1 and some of us 2. We pinned numbers to them all after the 5 children got to pick one each and then went from oldest to youngest through the grandchildren and then great grandchildren and back around again until they were all gone. Everything else got auctioned off.....too many hands in the pot!

Now I am excited to sew again for a while! It really could not have come at a better time. With the days getting shorter and now I HAVE some extra time since quitting job #2!

First there is a mountain of mending at hand and then I will probably get back to doing some machine quilting. When my MIL died several years ago we had to go through her things. One of the "finds" was a large collection of ladies handkerchiefs. Very pretty and dainty and totally useless! Ever since I found them I though of making them into a quilt top! This may be the winter for that ... but you never can tell, I may have other "projects" that crop up instead! :p
I used to collect hankies like that, Farm! I simply loved the variety and beauty of them all. Especially the embroidered ones. I once used several by basting them onto a plain white bedskirt. It turned out lovely!

I think that would make a darling quilt! :)

I also used to collect the dainty little aprons that I found at yard sales and Good Will. I used some, tied together, in my laundry room as valances. They also made great clothes pin holders on the line, if they had big pockets.

In the laundry room, I just strung some twine across the top of the window and clothes pinned the aprons to the line. It was pretty cute! Tucked dried flowers in the pockets.

Once made a pair of them into a throw pillow also.

I love old-fashioned linens..... :love

Went to the Renfest again yesterday with my D1. We had a blast! Yesterday was "Kilts and Kings" so lots of Celtic music (which I LOVE :love) and Highland games. We watched the stone throw (which is like shot put with an 18 pound rock), the stone carry (where men carry a 147 pound rock for distance in a set time) and Scottish war darts (3 foot long fletched spears thrown at a target).
We missed the local RenFest this year. :( We used to catch The Rogues at the Texas Renfest in Plantersville when we lived in Texas. I still listen to their first album (on cassette tape :p) The Scottish Rogues.

My dh has always wanted to learn to play the bagpipes well; not an easy instrument to learn. I love a man in a kilt ;) Throw in the bagpipes and I'm mush. :love

My favorite pipe band is Tartanic. Bagpipes are wonderful and so are the drums.

I will have to look them up, FF. Thanks for the tip. :D

ETA: I see Tartanic are from Houston too (so are The Rouges). :) It sounds from their website like they have disbanded.
