Farm, your dad is sounding a lot like mine...... :( Not so good. Dealing with dementia is one of the most frustrating types of caregiving, bar none! Before the day is done, you start wondering which person has all their faculties, you or him!

Sad, sad, sad to see people with those levels of anxiety.

Thanks so much all of you. You are really great friends! :hugs :love

Dad is doing much better. He still LOOKS like he has been in a fist fight, but he even tried to go to work yesterday. They sent him on home. My dad is a man of no hobbies. If he quits working we are afraid he will nest a spot in his recliner chair and just die there. That is part of the reason he is now living with my sis. We suspect early Altz with him as well, so that tale is just starting up.

Cayenne the other living pony, is fretting quite a bit. We did give he the chance to pay last respects, so she is aware her friend is dead. She was very sad and somber about it. It has been just the two of them retired together at my D1's house. We have had these same two ponies together for the last 16 years so they were REALLY bonded to each other. We don't know what the long term solution to her loneliness problem is. Right now my D1 is just spending A LOT of time with her petting and brushing. Right now it is probably good for both of them.

Long term we do not know. She needs a companion of some sort. Maybe a calf or a hair sheep??
You should talk to a local rescue about fostering a pony for Cayenne. We had to give up Pal, my gelding, last year... He'd been moved out to Alberta 4 years previously for his health to live with a friend, but she had to move into the city and we couldn't afford board out there. We contacted a few rescues, and found one that would take him on as a companion animal. They specialize in taking in rescues and horses that are companions only, and they foster our the companions to families who need a horse to keep one company, etc. Pal actually ended up at a farm where the horses buddy had died of a horrific colic. The minute the other horse saw Pal, it was like he'd just woken up from a deep sleep.

How cute that must have been. The interaction between the dogs and that little tough guy would be so fun to watch.

So sad the things people do with puppies. They should be left on a freeway as punishment. :somad

Katahdin farm?? Let us know how it goes?
