i'm pretty sure those containers are plugged in to keep them cool otherwise they'd be rotten after just a day sitting in those southern hotter ports.
The issue is limited space at all the potential storage locations in the transit pipeline. A lot of the process depends on the large volume of containers moving along quickly.

yes, a lot of things have become JIT (just in time), which doesn't work so well when things get disrupted...

maybe the flu going around isn't helping either? i know a few people recently that spent a lot of time in the bathroom...
