For anyone that may still be a little foggy on the economic position that we find ourselves in regarding the US debt, here is a short video that gives a simplified explanation.

Government Debt and You

Edited to add another article that I ran across. It's relating to investments, but the message is quite clear.
Jim Rogers: Boost Crop Production or No Food at Any Price

"Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says many Americans will face hard times for a long time to come.

He says President Barack Obama rescued the United States from a second Great Depression and will keep working to strengthen the economy. But Geithner says it will be some time before many people feel like the country is recovering.

Geithner tells NBC television's "Meet the Press" that it's a very tough economy. He says that for a lot of people "it's going to feel very hard, harder than anything they've experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come."

Really, how dumb do they think we are? No wait, don't answer that- I know the answer. Mr. G also stated that we borrow $0.40 of every dollar we spend. if we don't raise the debt ceiling we will only be able to spend what we bring in.

Really? That is what all of us do anyway, why should the government be any different?

It's clear to see, trouble is coming at us in every direction, it's the gov't duty to fess up.You bet it's going to be tough for allot of people for a long time. Fact is, many may not, will not survive, this nation will experience a sustainable rebirth or die, it that simple ,IMO.We are going to crash..You can only go so far spending more than you are taking in.We have reached that threshhold and beyond, yet so many don't see or relize this fact. Then we have the ones who refuse to believe the truth, though they know its true. The way i read what Mr.G is saying is..hang onto your butts people and pray hard...SS'er have known for a long time this was coming...

I wonder if they would purposly hold the debt ceiling long enough to cause a collapse during harsh times to cause more problems... Like winter, that always creeps me out people who didnt prepare wouldnt have a chance!! If it happens in the spring or summer there is possibility of staying alive, a long winter without preparing and no economy would be messed up.:/
The seasons can make things better or worse in a collapse.

I saw the G video yea i heard him say it, how can people not wake up. To me that is a huge warning when the money holder sayes things are gonna get really bad, sooo all the doom and gloom on this site has been for the good when the gov finally admits it lol...
Its helped me strive hard to become ss and pass school and everything and to make life better for everyone. I try really hard to give everyone the important science stuff , if the internet freezes in the collapse atleast some of u ss guys gt some techniques that can be useful when all the sevices are gone lol.....
Thanks again buff, zilla, koxx and others! ;)

What kills me, is the rate that prices have increased! A box of Annie's mac & cheese that was $1.47 is now $1.77 @ Target. I used to stock-up when they went on sale for $1 a box... Turkey bacon @ Costco was just $6.99 a box for 4 packages, now it's $7.99 ~ overnight!

My husband just mentioned today that it seemed like prices are going up while volume is going down! I laughed & told him that next thing we'll know they'll start shorting our dozen eggs with just 11!

My power, water, phone, etc. have all been cut off for a long time now. I use solar power and bum wireless internet from my neighbor, a old highschool buddy. I grow most of my own food. I have no bills, unless i decide to buy some food, a new tool, or some new tech.
