It costs me $37 each...I pay $40....to have the groomer/vet tech come to the house and do it. It costs the same around here to bring them in to a grooming place. I went to three different grooming places before finding this lady who comes to the house. I was not happy with the condition of my dog when I picked him up at the other places....he was traumatized, lethargic, and once, lame! I found out from the vet tech that it is not uncommon for certain groomers in town to bring client's dogs in, unbeknownst to their owners, for emergency treatment for overheating because they stuck them in a cage with a hot blowdryer on them while they were working on other dogs, and the dog overheated. So use caution.
I have show-clipped horses hundreds of times (worked at a show and breeding stable for 10 years) and I would far rather work on a wiggly horse than a wiggly puppy! I just don't know how to restrain the dogs, and it takes me several hours vs the groomer who takes less than an hour. If you are good at it, go for it. For me, it is worth paying for. I do some touch up in between, like a "hygiene clip" or as I call it, "C'mere so I can clip your butt!"
I recently read part of a book on stevia.. the Stevie Cookbook, Cooking with Nature's Calorie-Free Sweetener. Seemed very interesting, but I'm wondering where you purchase your stevia from? I know you've mentioned liquid and powder form before.. Do you buy in bulk? Where from?
I find that the cheapest for me is to get the 365 brand at Whole Foods, liquid, I think it is 8 oz for about $22-23 or so. I refill a smaller dropper bottle from that. I think I paid the same amount for a 2 oz (or was it 4 oz? It's been a long time now!) dropper bottle. I get the pure extract. Watch out for the glycerate, it is a watered down version.
I also buy the single packets for taking with me.
It doesn't replace all sugar, but certainly reduces it dramatically for me. For example, I will use it to sweeten the fruit to make a fruit crisp but will use a little granulated sugar in the crumb topping. I can use it to reduce the sugar in some baked goods, but replacing all the sugar with stevia will result in some serious texture issues, and I find that stevia alone is not sweet enough to offset the bitterness of unsweetened chocolate...but I can reduce sugar use here, too.
ETA: I'm great, thanks for asking! How are you doing? Are you more stressed or less in your new apartment? Lonely or loving it? A bit of both?
Alright, thank you.
Also, I tried looking for that sprouted bread you mentioned and could not find it. The only sprouted kind was a very small loaf and I couldn't fork over to much money on it. I'll keep looking though!
I'm ok. Not very stressed, but not hating or loving it yet. Still neutral and unwinding. Every noise I hear (person above me, someone walking by, etc.) I subconsciously think it's my dad, so until that goes away I don't think I'll be settled in very well.
Free, do you know if stevia can cause a metallic taste in the mouth? I switched over to it 100% in my coffee and the taste came on, and I've had it for 4 days, 24/7. I had it happen once before and I thought it was my metal fillings leaking. They have been replaced, so that can't be it. I think I was trying stevia then too.
I stopped using it yesterday so if it goes away then I guess that's my answer.
I also read that if you have ragweed allergies, it can affect you. I have ragweed allergies, so I think it's a no-go for me Maybe that's why I have had such a hard time with the taste of it
I googled the metal taste issue but didn't come up with anything.
It does not do that to me. I taste an herbal taste, and don't like it in plain black tea. So I use it in things that are more strongly flavored. But the taste is gone rather quickly, it has not lingered for me at all, and I wouldn't describe it as metallic.
I have ragweed allergies and have no trouble with stevia. That doesn't mean you won't, though.....
Cool! Hope you like it! I had a yummy grilled cheddar sandwich as part of my supper tonight. I LOOOVE it on the sprouted sourdough! Keep it in the fridge, as it has no preservatives and you are just one person. If you don't think you'll eat it up in 4-5 days, put part of it in the freezer.
