It does not do that to me. I taste an herbal taste, and don't like it in plain black tea. So I use it in things that are more strongly flavored. But the taste is gone rather quickly, it has not lingered for me at all, and I wouldn't describe it as metallic.

I have ragweed allergies and have no trouble with stevia. That doesn't mean you won't, though.....

Sorry, I am mystified! :idunno
Me too and I haven't found any issues with it. I had a plant last year and used to put fresh leaves in my tea with no ill effects. Hmmmm.....

I just got home and haven't milked yet, but she gave me a dirty look when I touched her udder....that is more towards normal, a plus! Normal would be rearing up and threatening me with her horns for touching her udder when she is not on the milking stand. DH saw her out in the pasture, eating. I gave her some hay and went to walk the dogs just now and she didn't follow the girls into the pasture, so that is a minus.

As for Mya, she is back to her obnoxious ol' self, and I am so glad. We are drinking her milk again and making lots of nice kefir. Her production is not fully up again, and it may not be. No more big batches of cheese in my future until next season, with the other young does....Ginger and the doelings, so it remains to be seen as to what the volume will be. Meanwhile, I will make my "fallback cheese," feta, which is an easy recipe so it doesn't irritate me so much if I have to make a small batch.

I may just have to have another go at chevre, and try making cheesecake with it.

I may have to have another run at ice cream, too, even though it is getting colder out. I'd have to save up a lot of eggs, though, and the girls are back on strike. 2-3 a day, and I like a dozen or more for a batch of ice cream. Sigh.

I made a batch of catfood this week, using chicken leg quarters, and canned 29 pints along with a few pints of broth. I will do my serious catfood making when the weather gets cold so I can do up bigger batches and put the meat on the cold porch and not have to rush against time and spoilage. I am DETERMINED to get enough done so as not to have to worry about it again until late next fall. I have about 35 days before I need to make another batch.

Last year we made most of the catfood from $0.49 whole turkeys on sale around the holidays. It was much easier to pick the meat off the bones and to cook them, but the broth....not worth it with commercial turkeys. They smelled like chemicals! So this year we will spend a little more and use chicken only, and make lots of flavorful broth for our own use. Can't wait! I love cooking many dishes using homemade bone broths.

I have a craving for cereal and milk....if it lasts, I will do something about it. I won't eat commercial cereals, as they are made with an extrusion process that makes the proteins neuro-toxic. The organic ones are actually worse for this reason...the organic grains are higher in proteins, so there are actually more neuro-toxins in them! I got the bright idea to make some granola using my new batch of wildflower honey and some of the extra virgin coconut oil, along with some freshly-rolled oats and whatever else I can come up with that sounds good.

I also have a hankering for homemade macaroni and cheese, and would like to make a batch with homemade noodles. It is fall, and I am craving the grains/carbs! I must resist! I don't need a layer of fat to keep warm...I don't live in the extreme North that some of my ancestors came from, and I can put on warm clothing instead and sit by the woodstove....no need for more weight.....yikes....Now I am craving homemade ice cream sandwiches made with homemade cookies and goat's milk ice cream, of course!

Eggs4sale recently mailed me a bag and the recipe for her cereal. It contains quinoa, spelt, oats, barley, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, millet, rice flour, buckwheat, and also cinnamon and ginger. I haven't had any yet but apparently you mix it up with oil and throw it in the oven for 15 minutes until crispy brown, then you can add honey, salt, etc.

Am I correct that the extrusion process is only for turning grains into cold cereals - making puffs, shreds, flakes...? Cereal you have to cook (ie: oatmeal) doesn't go through the process, does it?

Correct, cooking is fine, it is the high pressure that commercial machinery puts grains under...for example, puffed wheat or rice, or any extruded grain product like cereal shapes (including flakes) and many crackers, like Triscuits. The only cereal I know of that is not extruded is Grapenuts. That may even have changed, I don't like them so I don't eat them.

There is a cereal recipe in Eat Fat, Lose Fat that I keep meaning to try, but since I got out of the habit of eating milk and cereal decades ago, I haven't tried it yet. I don't want to like it and get back into the habit...it is quite a fattening habit and I find I need protein for breakfast anyways. The recipe looks interesting, though. It is a fermented batter sweetened with maple syrup that is spread onto a baking sheet, then crumbled once it is baked crisp and cooled.
