Yep, FD, that is about the way I eat. My "cheat" now is still whole grain, but it is corn, since I love corn.....hence the tortilla chips and popcorn. I will eat white bread when we travel and go to a restaurant that has good bread...but it has to be good, crusty, and hot with lots of real butter! And I am a sucker for the occasional chocolate treat. But I do like the homemade chocolates made with stevia and coconut oil, so I don't need a "fix" very often, it is more of a temptation put under my nose at someone else's home. Then of course I must be polite and have some! :D

When I know I am going to be somewhere with no healthy food, I will eat something before I go. When we travel, I have become a genius at shopping and preparing at least two meals a day in the hotel room, even without a kitchenette. At the very least, I will get some raw veggies to eat in the car, favorites are baby carrots and sugar snap or snow peas.

And thanks, ladies, for the enthusiasm over my course!!!

Its amazing how those baby carrots can substitue for potato chips isn't it. I usually carry almonds with me too. When I'm in a rush, I just grab some whole grain cracker bread, slice up some cheese, grab the almonds and some sort of easy vegy like carrots or some fruit like an apple, and I am set for the day.
Grains are ok in my diet, as long as they are whole. Although I cheat and use store bought whole grain flour when I bake. I had a Vitamix immitation blender given to me and it didn't withstand my heavy duty use  so even though I occasionally grind grains in my old blender, it doesn't come out that well.
And I can get away with oriental foods because the Huns invaded Poland and raped the women. So we figure we're part Chinese ;)
I find that soymilk helps with my hot flashes. And I love tofu. But don't get to eat it often, because no-one else in the house will eat it.
When I traveled, I would find going to a grocery store a much cheaper and healthier way to get our meals. And it used to be fun to compare grocery stores. Now they all are pretty much the same.

Yum, veggies with homemade sourcream french onion dip!

To finish up today, I am having another shake, since I just came in from working, so I am caught up with my intake of plants. I also had multiple servings of grapes and cherries, washed and sitting on the counter to grab all day. Probably totalled at least 16 servings today. Whew.

Have three chicken thighs from the grill waiting for me in the kitchen. Lunch was a plate of tortilla chips with goat cheddar melted on them, and fermented bean dip and sour cream. Double-yum!

I worked like a maniac today, so I just may treat myself to popcorn again as we watch The Closer on tv and go into a coma....Oh, not quite, I will be peeling garlic again!

Free, when you do invest in garlic, make sure you get the easy peel kind ;) That's the only kind we will grow. You just smack it with the flat side of a big knife and the peels just about pop off. Sure makes life easier when you use as much garlic as we do.
Sounds like you did have a busy day.
Days like this I tend to eat mostly fruit, because it is so easy. Just grab one from the tree and eat. I've had several plums that fell to the ground as well as peaches. Haven't eaten anything else yet. And am getting hungry. I also like to keep hard boiled eggs on hand for an easy snack along with a homemade pickle.

Ok Free i am confused (what is new?)
If we are avoiding soy beans because they (in part) are GM'd how do you justify eating corn chips and pop corn? Isn't corn in the same boat as the soy beans? Isn't it mostly all GMO?

This is not antagonistic question about your diet :love...I am trying to learn here, not being a smart @ss!! :bow

It is a valid question. I do buy organic corn products. My feeling is that I have to stop obsessing at some point and just do my best.....if it is a food I really, really enjoy and is not total garbage. So for me, I LOVE corn, so I will keep these two items in my diet as whole grain items.

I truly believe it is impossible to eat completely as our Creator intended in today's world. You can plant your own food, but you can't prevent the bees from cross-pollinating it, and you can't stop the pollution from raining down on it, and you don't know what pollutants are in your own soil from previous property owners/tenants.

So although it is important to know what we are putting into our mouths, we can't always have the ideal that we want. So we do our best, but knowingly, not blindly.

It took me some time to come to grips with that. I felt the same sort of panic and betrayal that many also do when they start to learn about food and what is out there and how difficult it can be to get real food. And I have some decades of damage to reverse!

But now I think of it this way.....I can only do my best, continue to learn and strive, and in a couple or three more decades, should this world still be around, I will be enjoying a better quality of life than I would if I didn't bother to struggle with this. I have a far better chance of living and dying in my own home, dressing and washing myself, making my own decisions, etc.

Oh, after saying all that, maybe I will drop the corn......naaah! :p

Oh, and I don't avoid soy only because of GMO, etc. Soy is not digestable by humans, even orgainic soy, and has powerful anti-nutrients that will cause imbalances. It also has powerful hormone disrupters, and will ruin the thyroid. These are not neutralized by soaking or fermenting.

Fermenting will mostly neutralize the anti-nutrients, a long ferment of at least three months, so it is pretty safe to use SMALL amounts of properly fermented miso and tamari as flavorings on occasion. We are talking teaspoons here, and on occasion. The good bacteria is so beneficial, too, that it is worth the occasional use of these items. Three months is a minumum. I use 1 and 3 year fermented miso's. I use it in chicken broth. Mmmmm.....

I wonder if this explains why my gut feels so lousy anytime I eat soy???
