I really never knew that corn was a whole grain! :p I love those organic blue corn chips! I get them baked though. Freemotion, what is your take on the baked ones vs. fried ones. I am talking about organic only here. (I have gained weight since the big move up here, so that is an issue for me.)

Thank you! Someone that disagrees with the whole soy movement as much as I do. I Hate that so many parents give soy to their kids.....what kind of damage are they doing? I have tried to cut out anything with soy from all of our diets. I hate feeling like crap all the time and I know it is from all of the junk in our food. That's part of the reason why I have gotten so into this site and we are trying to raise a lot of our own food.

I love that so many people on here are so knowledgeable about food and health. Keep up the good work!

Something disturbing dawned on me today. A total revelation.

The CAFOs are stuffing cattle with corn to fatten them up quickly so that they can make as much money as fast as they can. They do not care about the welfare of the animals or the fact that cows are not meant to eat corn. The cows are pumped full of drugs to keep them alive long enough to process.

The government is doing the same thing to us. Feeding us cheap substitutes for food, calling it healthy, supporting big agro so that everyone can make a bigger, fatter buck. The kicker is that no one cares about our health, they just pump us full of drugs and keep us plugging along. The only winners here are food manufacturers and the pharmaceutical companies.

Wow, our society is screwed. :rant

Yup, like those poor geese stuffed to the gills to get nice fat livers for French chefs.

I grew up in "small town" TX as all of you probably know, the GRAIN fed beef cattle were spoken highly of while the grass fed beef was what the poor people ate. HELLO!!!!! I believed it. We were vegetarians growing up, so it didn't matter to us, but as an adult, I chose "grain fed angus" b/c I thought it was the way to go for purchasing meat. Can we all say "BRAINWASHED?"

Henrietta23, yup, those substances in soy, phytates, inhibit digestion as well, and are very irritating to the digestive tract.

BBH, whoa, there, girl, slow down! Corn is still very high on the glycemic scale, so will pack the pounds on you, organic or not, baked or fried. So go easy. I just eat a few, a bag can last me for a couple of weeks even if I am on one of my rolls where I eat the same thing every day. So baked or fried, I still read the label. Know that the oils they fry them in are baaaad for you, and many baked chips have lots of crap in them to make them not taste like they came from a pile of leaves you just raked up.

Oh, that reminds me of a funny story.....years ago, when baked chips first came out, dh bought some and I thought they tasted like the leaf pile. Later, he bought some more, and I didn't bother with them, and the bag was on top of the fridge for a while.

My friend came over and spotted them, and asked if she could try them, she'd been wanting to. Sure, go ahead, they are disgusting! She opened the bag, and her eyes flew open with delight, she said they were wonderful, just like regular chips....of course I had to try them, figuring they company must've improved the formula.....we were both munching and exclaiming when we heard dh snickering in the other room.......BUSTED!!!!! He'd been buying regular chips and refilling the baked bag so I wouldn't mess with his chips!!!! Or give him "the look" when he ate them!

The tortilla chips I choose are simply corn, salt, veg oil in the ingredient list. One day, when I have more lard to play with, I will be making my own. Maybe. Meanwhile, it is a concession I make because I enjoy them so much. I eat them in extreme moderation.

You are very welcome, lorihadams, and Dace, YUP.....you said it!!

When my dh was diagnosed and we sat down and talked to the Auntie. She gave us the low down on corn. About the whole GMO factor and how usleless it was even for animals. It is not even digested in humans. As I am sure you all know.

I mostly avoid it now.

Supplements
Shake w/ 3 yolks
Cherries and a big hunk of cheddar
Another big, big shake
Popcorn with romano cheese and butter and more cherries.

Had to work with a long drive, then come home and get all that hay up! I love the Vitamix....I love those frozen shake meals on a hot day, when I don't feel like eating.

15 servings of fruits and veggies yesterday. At least. I feel a need for beef today, though!

Dang Free...you don't eat a lot girl! Although you sure do pack in a lot of fruits and veggies! I am a grazer I guess..typically I have coffee, a few oz of green juice, breakfast, snack (fruit & nuts) Kombacha, lunch, afternoon snack, Kombacha, then dinner.

Should I be having the kombacha in between meals or with meals? I haven't quite figured that one out, but I do like it.

Yeah, I don't know why it took me so long to realize how bad all these processed foods are for us. I guess up till now I believed in the USDA, National institute of Health, AMA... etc and the stinking food pyramid. I feel like I have been deceived and sold a crappy car.

When it gets hot, I don't feel like eating as much for some reason. That's why I like the shakes so much, because I sure feel like drinking....cold stuff! Throwing some egg yolks in gives me some fat and protein, too. Too many raw egg whites can cause B vitamin imbalances. Yolks are fine....from your own hens only, not store-bought salmonella factories.

It doesn't sound like much when I type it in, but if you saw it, it is a fair amount of food. Considering most people eat 1-3 servings of fruit and veggies....on a good day!

You don't need quite as much nutrient-dense food, either. I do need more animal protein than I have had the last couple of days. But again, I will be balancing that throughout the week, not per meal or even per day sometimes.

Have the kombucha whenever you feel like it! It does aid in digestion, so if that is an issue for you, or the entire meal is cooked foods and there are no fermented condiments, have a little with your meal.

You have been deceived and sold a load of manure! We are trained not to think, that the thinking is done for us by a benevolent "parent" with our best interests in mind. We are also conditioned that we simpletons cannot balance our diets or our animals diets without a fancy degree......based, of course, on the food commerce pyramid!

Grazing is good....I often don't sit down for a meal, but graze throughout the day, especially if it is just me I am feeding.
