quarts are about $12/dozen, half gallons are $15/6, but in the end i don't think it works out better on price because large mouth lids are more expensive.
Depending on what you are canning, wide mouths are preferable here and worth the extra cost. Pickle spears, peaches, etc are easier to mess with using wide mouths.

@frustratedearthmother

Stores are out of quarts and larger here. I helped with that this weekend. 😀

i've never seen half gallon regular mouth canning jars. and yes i know it can help to have that space to work with. for us we're past the complicated stages of canning where we primarily do tomato chunks and tomato juice and both of those go easier on me when they're regular canning jars.

half gallons are not for canning (except for apple or grape juice). They're great for storage or fermenting. They're very useful, so I have accumulated a dozen or 2 or 3...

I'll get the latest batch of okra cut up and in the dehydrator today. I've got eggs that I should get dehydrated too. Hens are still providing, but they're looking awfully ratty. Molt is gonna happen soon. Days are getting shorter so production will wane soon enough.

I need to source some hay. I've got several bales left but will definitely need more to make it through until spring.

Saw a couple of does riding each other this morning. Bucks are getting stinky. Rut is on the way. Hope to breed the older does first for kids in January. I think I'll hold off until October for the younger does. March kids for them.

DD and fam coming in for a quick visit this weekend. DD is helping a friend with preps for a wedding. Need to menu plan and do as much ahead of time as possible.

Need to get outside before it gets any hotter.

The wife was on a bacon run this morning. Afterwards, went 3 towns over and cleaned out a small hardware store: 4 cases of wide mouth pints, 6 half gallons, all they had left.
Oh wow! You ARE responsible for the jar shortage, lol.

Along with my order for the 1/2 gallon jars I also ordered a case of wide mouth quarts. It was delivered this morning. I'm doing ok on jars right now. But when I break open a new case, I generally pick up another. I use jars for other things besides canning.

I'm at the point where I'm asking myself - when is enough, enough?

Well - I thought it might happen - and it did. I got one case of the 1/2 gallon jars delivered and now one case has been cancelled. Still one floating around out there...wanna take bets if it'll make it here?

DH finally got results of the MRI. Spondylosis and stenosis in a couple areas of his spine. Next step - Pain Mgmt. Let's get this show on the road. We're both tired of this!

Got the dehydrator loaded again with okra. It dawned on me today that okra is a 4-letter word.

There is something terribly, terribly wrong with me. I don't know what to do about it either. It's strange and weird and has come over me very suddenly. I'm cleaning house. Not ordinary every day stuff - but the kind where you move the furniture. The kind where you pull all the cushions off the furniture and stuff the vacuum wand down in all the crevices. But - the things I've found!! A sock. Now I can't blame the washing machine! A dime. Now I'll never be broke. And...thanks maybe to grandkids (they're not here so I can blame them) I found popcorn. I think popcorn is kinda like a petrified Twinkie - it never goes away.

Back to it - woo hoo!
