I had 4 cracked ribs from an accident years ago and know how much pain I was in from that, so I can only imagine what your DH is going thru. And they didn't show up on an x-ray. They did a bone scan.

And I hear ya on the mud. There have been times when I have had to wear muck boots for months on end because it never stopped raining long enough for the farm to dry out. At least at home, we have more sand in our soil, so we don't get the mud like that here.

oh man, FEM I'm just catching up on your journal. last i knew you were headed for vacation. I'm so sorry all heck broke loose and you and DH have had to endure all this. and very glad the MIL is doing well. stay strong and remember, this is a test, only a test and you're making it thru. and I'm so sorry about loosing your goat.

Thanks goatgurl. It has been pretty messed up around here lately!

But, life does go on - we got DH's new car today. He loves it of course, and I swear it has every safety feature known to man.

I was so bummed this morning to walk out back and see that my deer/chicken feeder was on the ground. We had some wind last night - neighbors lost a big tree limb - and I lost my deer feeder. I think it can be salvaged and I know it still works cuz it's trying to toss out feed from its prone position, lol. Chickens still come running when it goes off, but not too much feed is coming out. It needs to be upright so that the corn feeds down into the hopper area.... I'm gonna see if I can get my son to come help me get it back up tomorrow. Wouldn't ya know I had just loaded 150lbs of feed into it on Friday.

Need to band one of the little bucks pretty soon. It's cooler than usual for this time of year, so I think I'll go ahead and get it done.

If it ever dries up I need to get the horses feet taken care of...

If it ever dries up I need to sell some goats...

If it ever dries up I need to separate some chickens and get some breeding and hatching going on...

If it ever dries up I'd like to get the pasture mowed...

If it ever dries up... you get the idea!

My DS came out today to help me with a few things. First, I wanted him to check out the lawnmower because I thought I heard a squeal the last time I used it. No squeal today. He checked the oil and mowed the front yard and declared it fit for service.

Then we emptied the corn out of the fallen deer/chicken feeder and he pointed out that one of the sleeves that hold the legs on had totally twisted and broken off. GRRRRR! This thing is fairly new and was fairly expensive. Anyway, I have it temporarily attached to the fence where the leg should have been. They other two legs are fine. I may, or may not, see if my neighbor can weld the bracket back on - or I might just leave it the way it is. It's working for now, so....

I've weaned the last baby who was still with her mama - so now I'm milking two goats. But, I'm only milking once a day so I won't be overwhelmed with milk. Except, that maybe I should milk twice a day so I can start making cheese again, and get some cajeta made for Christmas presents. It's so good, I think I neeeeeeeed some cajeta. I haven't had any in 4EVER!

I moved the 20 chicks into an outside chicken tractor/brooder this afternoon. It was time. when they start jumping out of their bins and trying to claim the entire breezeway as their territory - time to move. I need to go check on 'em before I go to bed.

DH is improving sorta. Instead of hurting allll over, now he has a different body part that hurts each day, lol. I feel so bad for him - but at least it's beginning to ease somewhat. We have a doc apt tomorrow to get the results of his hand x-rays. I am so afraid they're gonna say it needs surgery or something. I'm praying that it doesn't.

We picked up his car yesterday and he is so pleased with it. I haven't even been in it yet, but we'll take it to his appt tomorrow so I'll get my ride.

the guy that i allow to hunt on my property hands his feeder in a tree. don't suppose that is a possibility? hope for DH's sake the doc says that his hand will be ok but doctors love surprises and if he needs that hand to work he's going to have to get it fixed. poor guy. just remember, this too shall pass. and i think i speak for all of us when i say cajeta for Christmas yummm

A tree to hang the feeder in would be awesome - but no trees in that area... And, I thought the feeder had survived the fall without any problems, but.... It seems to be flinging out corn whenever it wants to...and lots of corn too. The chickens are loving it, lol!

Trip to the doc today told us pretty much what we already knew. The finger is broken and OMG you'd think it was his neck the way the docs are reacting. The general surgeon wanted us to go immediately to see the hand surgeon....and the hand surgeon was in surgery, but wanted us to come in and wait for him to get out of surgery so he could see us right now. Really people - it happened two weeks ago and if we hadn't been still complaining about the pain nobody woulda said nuttin about it. BUT.... I think they want to get to it before it totally heals pointing in the wrong direction. My poor DH...he's just tired of allll of this mess. We have to go by the hospital early in the morning and pick up the films and get to the hand surgeon's office by 8am. More fun in store.... NOT!

Welllll, it's too late to do surgery on the finger. The bumpy part at the end of the bone (the part that goes into the knuckle) is broken totally off. It's already trying to heal, but crooked. So, the only thing left to do is to splint it, and do therapy. We're actually not too upset about it. Therapy vs. surgery...kind of a no brainer, lol. But, the biggest drawback is that it might take as long as a year to get full function back to that hand....geeeeeze louise!

Got lotsa does in heat this week, but I don't wanna breed right now. I'm trying to hold out for mid- March deliveries. How much you wanna bet that in two-ish weeks there won't be anybody receptive? I'd really like to coordinate the deliveries with spring break. That would be too easy, huh?

Baby chickens are growing, growing, growing. Guess that's what baby critters do, huh?

Milking is going well....still tossing around getting a couple more pigs but just can't make myself do it. Toooo much other stuff that's more important right now.

Hopefully, no doc appointments for TWO WHOLE WEEKS!

That would be nice! I know after my accident, I was juggling 3 different doctors (plus my allergist) and therapy and I wasn't hurt as bad!
