My heart breaks for you. You are at the place where no matter what you do, it's wrong. But at the same time, it's right. Your parents can never go home again. They cannot take care of themselves. They can't go on living with you either, they need 24 hour care and at some point, you need sleep and rest for yourself. It's a hard decision. May God give you comfort in this difficult time in your life.

Thanks @baymule. You are right - there is no good answer.

I'm pretty well resigned to the fact that this can't continue here. I know that there are going to be things we do better here - and things a facility can provide them that I can't. Trade-offs.... But, they do need the security and care. Can't change that fact.

On another note - I have baby piggies!!!! One of the mama's popped some out, I don't even know how many because my headlamp decided to die on me. The best thing about that is that it was really nice to be able to walk right through that pen, see babies and keep on walking. I didn't have to do a THING! Good mama... see ya tomorrow. NO muss, No fuss!

AWWWHH..more piggies! They are cute, the AGH moms are great and happy to share with ya! :p So, soon we will know how many more you have....

How's goat breeding going? I had another in with buck yesterday for a while and she was bred. That's 3 now. So it will be Mar, Apr, May kids in 2018. I like the better weather for kidding but, it was NICE to have all of them within 6 weeks this year! Mid Jan thru late Feb and done. My blessing was that it was a mild winter and the actual days they chose were the better ones. Thank you girls! Plus, they sold easily as June had several religious events where the ethnics wanted goat. Will miss that this yr. I do plan to add another buck next yr and will most likely do MUCH earlier breeding than now. So goes life  We do what we can. I hope to do better with gardening in 2018...if I can find the time. LOL

I'm pretty well resigned to the fact that this can't continue here.

It's the 24/7 monitoring that's overwhelming & a blessing at the facilities. You will feel relief, even though they do lose the personal touch of "home". Really, after settling in, they don't much remember what that "home" was like. At least, that's what I found it to be. There's an adjustment time. There were 2 couples on moms wing...nice for them to be able to stay together. Dementia everywhere... but, good care with dining rooms, showers, laundry, etc. Even a hair salon was there if you wanted to have that done. Plus regular activities, church services, movies, lovely outside set-up. Hey, think positive. :hugs

DH has an eye appointment next week. They're hoping to be able to do more laser surgery. I think he's kinda resigned himself to never seeing great again... :( He's not complaining about it like he did previously - now he's complaining about gout, lol! Poor man! Actually, he's already getting better from the gout. He knows better than to eat a bunch of ham, but he loves it. Tart Cherry Juice for gout - works great!

We have SEVEN piglets....or maybe I should say six and a tiny little runt. I picked her up this morning and held her and squeezed her and she never squealed...just kinda grunted and settled in right under my neck. I shall name her Tiny and we shall be BFF's forever, lol! She seems just as healthy as the others so I have high hopes for her. I will try to sex them this evening and see about castration soon. No excuses this time - the weather is beautiful and the ground is dry and pig testicles are gonna fly!

You are welcome! :) I do that sometimes in my office and my 'across the hall co-workers' used to give me that weird look - they're used to it now!

Lol! The person who runs the class is at least of a like mindset as all of us, so she understands!

Good number of babies, too. I forget, do you cut your goats too? DH and I have had too many conversations about livestock testicles lately... Lol

I have cut goats and I have banded goats. I primarily switched to banding after I started letting the male goats grow up a bit to try and prevent any problems with urinary calculi. It's recommended to let all their "stuff" grow a little before you castrate. Cutting them as little bitty guys isn't bad at all... less than a minute and it's all done and they run to mama. After they're 2 - 3 months old I don't think cutting them is so easy anymore which is why I mostly band now. If they were definitely headed to the freezer it might be a different story too... but, I sell a lot of pet wethers so I need them to stay healthy!

I kinda hate the idea of it banding...I mean yuck to letting body parts 'rot' off. But, my vet told me that after 3 or 4 days, when everything is dried up, you can just cut it off with no problems. I haven't done that yet. But, it kinda looks like I'm gonna have late babies this year - and banding in the summer doesn't appeal to me either. So, if I do band, I will very likely follow his advice and cut it off after a couple days of "shriveling"... The thought of it kinda creeps me out, lol. Maybe we'll just decide to have all doelings this year, lol!

Went and visited the only assisted living facility in our little town. It's nice enough - small enough to be homey. The residents that were up and around looked and sounded happy. But it's still a facility. I think it would be a perfectly acceptable place for them.... but I have trouble picturing them there (or anywhere for that matter). Dad goes barefoot everywhere - can't do that there. He yells instead of talking because he's deaf. I can just see him sitting in the lounge area where folks are watching TV and starting his reminiscing with "I remember...." at a dull roar, lol. I just dunno. Maybe if I could find someone to come in at night to watch them so we could sleep in peace. Weird though having a stranger in your house overnight. ARGH! I hate this all so much.
