Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Go to BYH, Herd Activity Centers thread. Look at the cow videos in last part. LOL....like our goats!!

FEM I have to thank you for telling us about reverse searing steaks. A friend gave us a couple of Wagyu steaks and I reverse seared them. They were awesome, much better way than when we had them before. I seared them, then put them in the oven. I like this reverse sear!

The cow videos were funny and kinda amazing. Who ever thinks of a cow being smart?

@baymule - I'm sure your steaks were amazing - but - reverse sear is just backwards of what you did. You do oven first and then hot sear last. but, I can't knock the other way either - cuz lots of really nice restaurants (and me) have done them that way for years. Something about the even cooking that the oven achieves...

@Mini Horses - wish we had an auction barn around here. Nearest one is about 2 hours away...:( If we had one, I'd have a lot less goats, lol.

Worked this morning doing community service. The entire school district was volunteering all over town. We were at the Home Depot helping people load their purchases. Our boys worked their butts off loading concrete, plywood, sheetrock, and tons of lumber. The girls worked pretty good too. They did a lot of 'greeting' and returning carts from the parking lot. But, it was a good thing!

I picked a bunch of overgrown okra today. It's weird - NOTHING on this place will eat those pods. However, if I break 'em open every critter wants the seeds. A lot of them I just dropped on the ground in the garden. I've done that before and when spring comes around and I've got volunteer okra.

I missed milking Cameo the other night when I worked late - but milked her the next morning. She was not happy - and her production has dropped to about half of what it was. Not sure if I can get her back up and not sure if I care, lol.

I’m going to need samples of those steaks done both ways so I can formulate a scientific theory as to the best way...we may have to repeat the experiment a few times for accurate results. I’ll PM y’all my address shortly :D

Lol yeah, its that time of year where milking gets a little old!

The auction is 2 hours away from me also. But there's a guy I call the clean up guy. He buys animals, only ones that aren't obviously sick, and brings them to auction. He pays according to market value and, of course, he makes money too. I had a hard time with the idea at first but now it's like well, he's usually honest about what he's doing, and at least people aren't neglecting the animals because they can't get rid of them. So, I can live with the idea if I ever need to use that sort of service.

Hi WBF! Good to see ya here!

Hiya! Good to see you too! I’ve had a busy summer so haven’t poked my head in for a while lol

Sounds like a plan and I volunteer to be a taste tester!
But there's a guy I call the clean up guy.
That sounds like a great solution. 'Course, maybe that's what the last guy does that bought from me... When they buy a bunch at one time I KNOW they're gonna resell....but whaddya do?

I've seen his house, he takes good care of them until he takes them down. Makes me sad in some ways, but farming isn't as pretty as it looks on tv lol!
