I'm hiring someone to deliver it. It is going to need a "wide load" permit b/c it is a monster. 10 x 16 and standing over 9 1/2 feet high.

I'll ask the guy tomorrow if he will be helping me block it up etc. If I don't have to buy all that stone and sand and tamp it all down then I may have a few extra bucks to pay this guy to stick around and "block it up".

... When you say blocks, you mean those bracket thingys right? Or do you mean cinder blocks?

Did you use a jack to lift it etc.?

I am having it delivered, should I get the blocks in place first? Or should we get it situated and then lift it?
The company that we bought the shed from delivered it, and setting it level was included in the price. The blocks mentioned are the cinder blocks. He had several different sizes, and after clearing the grass beneath each spot for the blocks, he set them in and added different sizes to get it as close to level as he could. Then, if needed for fine tuning, he used a shim made from pressure treated wood.

The shed was unloaded in our driveway. He then used a small motorized thing (it had what sounded like a lawnmower engine) to lift it up and place temporary wheels under one end, and to lift the other end. He then used this machine to haul it about 150 ft. up the hill and around our garden, before setting it down. He would check the shed, then raise it back up to with this little machine and add blocks as needed. Then lower it and re-check. The whole process took about 30 minutes.

Thanks k0xxx!

Thanks miss_thenorth!

I'm paying for it today. It is about 2 years old, in perfect shape and they are asking $500 for it. The landlord just wants it gone. (It will need to be painted b/c the tennants painted it with garish colors.)

I'm so excited! :weee

I am going to extend the roof line on both long sides and turn them into 10 x 16 ft stalls.

I'll take photos. :D

I went to look at the shed today and met the "owner". I was ready to pay for it until he said that he wouldn't give me a reciept for it. I had the cash in my hand too.

It didn't feel right to me, so I left. For all I know, this guy is out there selling other people's sheds while they are at work.

It was too good to be true. Back to the drawing board.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that you were looking forward to the shed, but you are right, not willing to give a receipt sounds funny. Keep looking.

Thanks k0xxx and thanks kcsunshine,

I was taken aback by his refusal to write a receipt. I'm new to this area of the world I thought I had insulted him by asking for one. (Everyone here is so nice, polite and honest!) However, the more I thought about it, I realized something was up.

His ad on CL specifically stated "no emails", he obviously didn't want a paper trail. (He also mentioned he wasn't originally from here, so my opinion of the local locals is still the same. :) )

Oh well, it was a pretty drive.

BBH,

Building and setting up sheds like these are what I do, and you would be surprised at how often folks attempt to steal them, or sell someone elses out from under them. You're instincts were good, IMO.
Just out of curiousity, how much was he charging for a 10x16? Was it wooden, or steel? Just wondering what prices were like compared to ours.

this is some of what I do.

Hi TW!!!

I'm so glad you chimed in. He was asking only $500 for a well built, double sheeting wood shed.

It had wonderful two foot eves on each side. It was nice!

His story was that he owned the duplex and lived on one side. When he built his house he no longer needed the shed. It was pretty much empty. (He did have the key for the lock though.) :idunno

Tommy, a few years ago we had four businesses that built and sold portable buildings, and offered a "rent to own" option. An industrious fellow of dubious morals, would take orders for buildings, then rent buildings that matched his order and remove the company's nameplate. Then he would replace the name plates with his own, sell the buildings at a deep discount, using the money to make a couple of months payments on the original. Then do the same thing all over again. Once he had a nice pile of money, he skipped town. Only a few of the 9 buildings that he rented and sold were ever recovered.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, but your post reminded me of it.

If you would like to compare, here is where I bought my building.
