I'll tell ya Hen - all my Marestare viewing probably saved my kids, I learned so much. Especially about the immediate after-care.

They have alot of experience. I can't tell if there might be another one coming yet. It can take awhile sometimes.

Aw :hit You can't blink when they're making those signs for the camera. Someone was just asking what they meant over on BYH

What stinks is that I can't get to the 'community room' there while I'm watching at work. The firewalls block stuff like that (luckily, not BYH or SS!) so I can't see the comments, I can only watch the cameras.

Jav's right, Hen - when they hold up one finger it means it's a buck, two fingers mean it's a doe.

Watching kidding in real life is so much different than watching it on marestare. There's a bit more pressure since if something's going wrong YOU have to step in, not watch someone else do it, but there's also a great sense of accomplishment when your doe has her kids.

Speaking of does having kids....Opi is driving me nuts. I can wrap my fingers around her entire tail head, but I can just barely cup her udder in my hand...it's that small. She's a pygmy and I've never seen a pygmy pregnant or give birth, so I have no clue if this is normal. This is also her first kidding with me so I have no idea of her signals. She's huge. I'm contemplating on cutting down on all their grain and just pulling Fudige outside to eat so she can put more weight on. If Opi still has a few months to go (gosh, I hope not) I have a bad feeling this kid's gonna be huge.

I put little g's baby monitor out in the barn last night and hooked one monitor up in the basement (so I can hear while we're inside watching TV downstairs) and one in my bedroom. All I heard last night was a few maas from Fudgie, some serious cud chewing, and the darn roosters having a crowing contest at 3 am.

I saw your request for a photo of a figure 8 disbudding - we had one done on our buckling so I'll get a photo sometime today (it's raining right now) I never could have figure it out myself and I'm glad our breeder taught us.
What she did was burn the circle around the bud, then she taught us to feel between the circle and the forehead and if there is a bump or a ridge, then you take the iron and place it right across the middle of the first circle and burn another circle towards the front-center portion of the head. It's actually much simpler than it sounds -I just had to see it first.
