That's nice. Is the bottom wire or solid?? How old are your birds?

I am moving mine out this weekend. They will be 2 weeks. I don't care. I am going to tarp my tractor and run an extension cord for the light.

If they can't deal then that's there problem..

:idunno
The bottom is that green coated wire in the 'open' part. The 'closed' part (where it says The Guinea Hen House) is all plywood and actually has 3 nesting boxes inside - they just never get used!

These chicks are/were day olds when we got them last weekend so they're about a week old or just under now. Some even had the egg tooth still. But I have an extension cord that goes inside the house through a little hole we made above the small door w/the tractor on it and the heatlamp is clamped to the ceiling. All cords and such are out of reach of the chicks - for now anyway. Once they get big enough to do without heat we'll take it all out so they can't peck at anything.

We had a nasty storm the other night and no one was lost so I'd say this set up is working for the time being.

So.....we have this barred rock rooster named Joey. Now, I don't go and name these chickens - there's just too many. But some people do name them and when I bring them home the names sometimes stick. So, Joey stuck.

He and little g don't get along very well. For whatever reason Joey thinks little g is after his ladies and ALWAYS goes after him. It got to the point that little g had to carry around his own mini-pitch fork when he wanted to play outside.

Well, I've been getting really tired of hearing little g cry about "protect me from Joey" and "Joey's just waiting for me to come by". I've been known to say on occasion that I'm just going to shoot him one day because I'm tired of it.

Today was one of those days.

I was so sick and tired of hearing little g cry about Joey the rooster that I said "What do you want to do? Want me to shoot him so we can eat him?"

little g replied yes.

So, I got a new pistol the other day. A nice 380 called "The Bodyguard" complete with a lazer pointer! I haven't really shot it much, just a couple of test rounds. The lazer is what sold me.

I go out and get Joey confined to a spot where there are no other critters or anything and aim the lazer at his head/neck. Afterall, I don't want to ruin the meat!

All I can say is that lazer is dead on. One shot and he's down for good. Not even flailing like a chicken with his head shot off. little g ran from the goat pen screaming 'JOEY'S DEAD, JOEY'S DEAD. THANK GOD ALMIGHTY JOEY'S DEAD'. Well, something to that effect anyway. He went inside and said "Dad, I can't believe it. Mom just shot Joey!"
