I have been praying, much as we need the water, that the storm will go and quench the fires there in So. CA. I am a California Girl. Born and raised in the LA area. I about croaked when I saw a film clip from Pasadena of the Rose Bowl with flames on the hills behind it!

My daughter in CO says the sun is blocked out from the smoke of the fires in CA. She sent me a neat photo let me see if I can post it here of the Sun there in Eagle CO on Sunday at about 6pm. Which normally, the sun is still putting out lots of light this time of year.

I have pics like that from a couple years ago. We are not seeing the smoke this far south but my dh was working up north and saw it. I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of Ca. My nephew is fighting that fire on the front lines. It's scary! Weather is definitely cooling down and some moisture in the air should help. :fl

I'm originally a California girl myself... Sacramento is my "home" town. Gina your nephew is in my prayers. Fighting wildfires is no joke.

I don't mind having my thread "hijacked" LOL It's kind of like coming home from work and discovering I had company while I was out! Make yourselves at home... coffee is in the fridge next to creamer and cups are above the coffee pot;) Make sure to try the upside down strawberry cake I baked last night but please save a piece for my husband...

Been real busy with work this week... I can't remember the last time I actually got 5 days in a row. Not alot of time for the critters or the weaving or the quilting but I'm not complaining. When there's no work there's no money for any of that stuff either. I hate how that works. It will be nice to have 3 whole days off with my husband.

Been looking for the camera so I can post some pics; Annie & Emily, the new coop Mark built for the babies... I really need to get better organized!

We picked up the meat from our hog. The butcher said it looked REAL good so I guess we did something right. It was probably the whey from my mozzarella experiments.

:welcome

Excuse my being late coming to this party! I'm usually a day late and a dollar short! LOL OK, not always, but I've been pretty self involved lately, and not paid proper attention to the new posts of others.

Welcome to our "porch"!

We were hoping to get a couple feeder pigs this fall, but it didn't work out. So, we're aiming for next year now.

:gig You're not the only one!!!

I just finished putting 170lbs of pork in the freezer... the butcher wasn't kidding: It really does look good - NOTHING at all like store bought & the flavor is outstanding. We estimate this one cost us about $3 per lb. Well worth every penny.

So you will have to give us "non pig" people the run down. Housing, feed, time it took to feed out. I was trying to convince my dh to let me get goats. He did not like the whole commitment thing. He suggested I do a pig instead. shorter time, less commitment, meat in the freezer. this coming from my dh is a shocker.

Glad to hear yours tasted great.
