there is no right or wrong on this vaccine

you must do what is best for the people invoved. many have way higher medical factors that will make this more important.
clear thinking and well said, as always. thanks FC!

Well I am glad that I posted this...the voice of reason is ringing clear.
Don't panic over one incident.

I do believe that this one will be fairly deadly, but I also think that we will be fine. I am prepared to keep my kids home if there is an outbreak at school. We'll pretend it is vacation ;)

I actually think that my little one already had it, but of course the Dr would not bring her in to test. Fever over 102. a solid week of coughing her guts out. She has had many colds in her life but very rarely has had a fever.

Any tips on boosting immunity?...or web resources?

This is just my opinion and experience, but my suggestions for boosting immunity are:

1. Lots of sleep.
2. Lots of water.
3. Lots of fruits and vegetables.
4. Handwashing as soon as my kids get home from school.

Good luck, everyone! I generally don't rush out for immunizations, but some really have their place. It sounds like this one is entirely appropriate for health-compromised kids. My especial best wishes to BBH and Farmerlor for their little ones.

Question

Does boosting the immunity truly help if you are exposed to this virus?

just wondering if any knows this answer.......is it "you are exposed and get it" or is it "you can fight it off if exposed and not even know it"

or is boosting the immunity to help "fight harder and easier" if you do get it?

There has been so much chatter about the vaccine all over the internet, with some talk of making it a mandatory situation. Not sure what would happen if one refused to take the vaccine. I suppose they can't hog tie you and stick a needle in your butt.

What would you do if you were opposed to taking vaccines, had no "doctor's note", and they said you HAD to take it?

I haven't quite read this thread through yet, but I wanted to say that one thing that helps me to avoid catching bugs when I am in close quarters with those who are coughing, etc. is I hold my breath if someone coughs next to me for as long as I can. I did this a lot in college, because I didn't want to have any sick days. It seems to work well. Eating healthy, getting rest, etc. seems to help for the few bugs that I do seem to pick up. I have only had minor symptoms from most things I have caught for years now. I used to always get really sick with whatever was going around.

I don't think they can make it mandatory truly.

If they did that they would have to impose martial law or something.

I can't see any Americans standing in line voluntarily for a vaccine if they did not want it...and I don't see those people caving in without a fight.

I just can't see it becoming mandatory truly.

scenario---if it was mandatory ---you WOULD have to hog tie me down if I didn't want it and "I bite back"

LOL

problem is we expose all the time.

people cough on money.
we handle money.

people touch everything and then we touch everything.

heck someone in a store might have infected a can of green beans and then you touch them.....then you might get it. My kid's school is a mess of sick kids. If the parents would just keep them home for a day or 2---it would cut that sick down from kid to kid...but parents use school as daycare also and can't take that sick day from work.

most we can do is the obvious. like not breathe right in if someone coughs right next to us, wash hands alot after being out in public, don't be around those that are known sickies, etc.

what else can we truly do? tough battle against the elements.

I never thought I would have to pay a fine for talking on the phone either. Smokers never thought they wouldn't be allowed to ply their trade inside a building. Bike riders and helmets. Motorcycles as well. Seatbelts. All couched as public health concerns, or protecting people from illness and injury. Those things are mandatory, why not the vaccine?

I don't think you necessarily pick up germs *just* from touching germy things. You generally get infected by touching something germy and *then* picking your nose or digging in your eye or rubbing a broken area of skin.

Some things are picked up just through breathing, of course, so washing hands may not be good enough.

As pointed out, perfectly healthy people are dying of this one. I have no idea on the numbers versus other illnesses, but some viruses really DO seem to hit the healthy the hardest. No idea why. Anyway, it still would seem like a good idea to take care of one's self and family as much as possible. Even if it doesn't help for this one, it surely would help for others.

I forgot another addition to my list:
5. Get exercise! This helps absolutely every single cell of your body to function better and be healthier.
