we actually had our big 'sleep in" today - all the way until 7:30. sheesh!
at the moment, i'm lucky in that the only things that need early morning attention are the chickens. and that takes very little time. so i usually get up at 7, let them out and feed them, and go back to bed for 2 hours (i am so so so not a morning person).

this morning, however, i glanced down towards the barn only to see, through very bleary eyes, what looked like a whole bunch of the horses where they shouldn't have been, namely the middle of the driveway. so, thanks to someone else's (my ridiculous aunt, i'm sure) carelessness last night, i got to wrangle 18 horses this morning... in my pajamas, by myself since no one else could be bothered to answer the phone "that early on a holiday."

mantra: today i am THANKFUL. thankful for everyone's continued health and spectacular sleeping abilities.

had dinner with my dad's family last night (sans my actual dad since he's been away working the other farm all month), mom and i had leftovers for lunch (since i'm keping her company while dad's away), and now we're about to go to her family's dinner. holidays are hectic around here.

i am THANKFUL for being around family, especially since i get to watch my niece grow up. thankful that everyone wants to run me ragged with spending time together. it could be so much worse.

happy THANKSGIVING everyone!

(this year i'm trying not to be cynical and call it Co-oping of Native American Foodways and their Subsequent Cultural Destruction Day. sometimes a Cultural Anthropology degree is not a good thing to possess. i really love this holiday though!)
