I don't find this ridiculous, I find this allows us to focus on what is important to us.
You are right, Bee. That was a poor choice of wording and I apologize.
I know many people need structure, routine and goals in uncertain times and it was insensitive of me to suggest otherwise. :/

Nah!!! No worries! Never gave it a second thought! :D :) Well....maybe a second thought...but it was very fleeting, as all my thoughts tend to be! :p

I just watched the evening news and the had home prices in Detroit.
Some of the homes in the inner city are going as low as 1100.00. The place really is turning into a ghost town. If I was a slum lord I would take 20k up there and buy a bunch of houses and rent them out. These houses are perfectly habitable. It's Robocop time.

I feel bad that everyone is starting to feel the pinch, but I must confess that I think my DH and I are feeling it the least. We've been struggling for 3 years, so even though it looks like the economy is tanking, there weren't any jobs for us to lose, as we had already lost them.

The last three years haven't been easy for us. Today my mom commented that DH and I are faring pretty well compared to people who are just losing their jobs and stuff. I know she meant it as a compliment, but it made me feel sad for the people who aren't used to living the way Dh and I do.

Same here, Aly. I know it sounds funny, but I'm doing rather better financially than I have in previous years. Maybe because I am fully vested in SS and living frugally, conditioned to do with little~like you and your husband.

We don't feel the pinch yet because we've been living within the vise for many years. You know that old saying, "When you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose."

I only have to think about if my landlord goes belly up....but I'll cross that creek when I come to it. Sufficient to the day is the evil therein..... :)

Well, I know you think Ohio is a pollution state, but if you landlord(lady) goes belly up you can come a crawlin' here! Bring the chickens and your sheep! (remember, I have geese!)

Really, I'm open to anyone who needs a safe haven, long as you're willing to help work the land! (but don't cross me or mess with my kiddos. You'll live to regret it!) :p

Thanks, Quail! We could putter into old age together (one of us much sooner than the other  ) with a dozen cats and wearing funny-looking hats when we garden or tend our flocks. Maybe some flour sack dresses and aprons....add some hobnailed boots and we have flavor, baby! Folks would come from far and wide to watch our demonstrations on how to milk a goat or shear an alpaca......I can just see it.... :D

Doesn't that make more sense than messing up your good clothes? :D My funny looking hat was chewed up by one of the dogs...grr...lol I don't have a flour sack dress, yet, though!
