I hope DH's work does not start evaluating spouses and kids! UGH!
I am 50 pounds over weight from having babies and my diet.
DH is the one that 'looks' healthy on paper but he is always the first one to get sick in our house and he always has something wrong with him! Go figure!

I thought smokers have always had higher premiums. I know that question is on every health insurance questionnaire I have ever filled out.

Ugh, add me to the list of people frustrated to insanity over health insurance. We can't find *anything* affordable for me. Husband fortunately can go to the VA anytime for free because he was in the army and saw combat in Iraq, but I'm stuck high and dry.
The cheapest thing we can find for me is $97 a month. Waaaay too steep for two broke newlyweds, especially since I'm the only source of income at the moment (his law school doesn't allow first years to work at all). I totally don't understand how my coverage could be that much, I'm 24, nonsmoker, and in good shape. I almost never go to the doctor, I really only need coverage for disasters like getting hit by a bus. :p
I'm told that $97 is cheap compared to most, hubby's mom said his full coverage was nearly $400 a month when he was on their plan.

Occa ---have ya tried looking into a catastrophic plan only

my bro and sil had one when they moved down to NC needing coverage they opted for a $10,000 deductible and after that 100% paid coverage for everything but it is taking a risk but if you are the type that wants coverage only for "getting hit by a bus" type thing it might be the cheapest way to go for you.

DH's employer charges more for insurance if you don't do their health assessment. Originally it was only the employees but now is the whole family. So we pay more. We feel it is none of their business. The worst part is that is just another employee doing these assessments so other employees know your numbers.

My subsidized COBRA ends at Oct 31st, so I've been researching medical plans and companies. So far, Blue Cross/Blue Shield whatever has the best major medical for us 50's something couple. But still its $886 per month and a hi deductible. Still looking....

hey MR!

WOW! isnt it crazy? we were glad that we had the subs. COBRA.. of course we didnt even use it once. it was only AFTER we got the catastrophic that we had 3 trips to the urgent care place. drat.

one thing i've seen around here is that one of the chain drugs stores (Walgrens??) has an in-house nurse/PA for the normal colds and scrapes and such. the flat fee is just over $100. and they can write some Rx's. i think this is a pretty good deal - of course we'd have to drive over an hr to get to one. but still - hopefully sometime like this will catch on.

That's right, I forgot about that. If you don't fill out the survey for BCBS they take $50 out of every paycheck (at my workplace). Since I live paycheck to paycheck, I gritted my teeth & did it. :(
