They do play nice this time of year. Funny how I suddenly have a new regular sleeping companion . . . same one that was nowhere to be found all summer.

We have mild winters, and since we are a reclaimed desert they are frequently dry. However, this week we got hit my a leftover tropical storm and in 24 hours we got three times the normal rainfall that we usually get in the entire month of October. Hoping my plants come back.

Yesterday as the storm passed over we had heavy, wet, warm air that is completely foreign to us. The humidity right now is 91% and it is 67 degrees at 845 AM. That is bizarre. Almost double our usual humidity. When the wet ground dries a bit, it will be better.

We WERE having some chilly nights, into the mid 40's, which is perfect. The leaves will stay green a bit longer now, but it will give my plants, which I planted far too late, a chance to grow.

I cleaned the chimney on Monday and built our first fire Tuesday night. We're looking at a cold rain for the next 3 days so it looks like we'll need to keep it going for awhile.

We could see our first flakes of snow this weekend. I still have a couple rows of potatoes to dig, garlic to plant, a hoop house to tarp and bank with straw, etc. etc. :barnie

Tomorrow is my brother's wedding anniversary, and I do recall snow on that day. :/

Yeah, my cats only do laps in the winter too. :/ But I guess it is better than the cat that sneaks up in your chair when you get up for just a minute. :duc All our comfy chairs next to the woodstove are always taken by the cats. We have actually given up and just sit in the dinning table chairs. :/

Ahhhh yes, the woodstove! Gotta love it! We have been burning ours now off and on for about a week. Cold rain...winds...Brrrr...I LOVE IT!! I know...crazy is as crazy does...but, I DO love the good dry heat from a woodstove. These old bones just sigh with relief...after haulin out a bucket of ashes, and hauling in 4 armloads of firewood. Time to get the spinning wheels down ladies...and set by the woodstoves...and spin, spin, spin!! :D

We've had the woodburner going all week. :barnie makes me mad because last winter we didn't have to light a fire until well into November.

makes me glad we stocked up on extra wood this year!

last week we were lighting a fire in the stove just in the early morning, just enough to take the chill off.

I'm not ready for winter. Nope not at all.
