I've been able to read but not reply, darn computer! Yay! Donki!!!! Are you comfortable with the milking procedure and setting up a milking kit? I asked dh if we could do a little video of how we do things if you need it. I never pass up a chance to humiliate myself publicly. :p

I find that a layer of shavings under the straw works great. Soaks up the urine, and the straw keeps them above the wet spots. Straw is not really absorbant, but could work well without shavings if you have a dirt floor with good drainage.

Free=that would be so cool. I think I'm okay with it all. But there are details I'm sure I'll screw up.
As for the chickens, it's not a huge deal I suppose. It was recommended to keep them out of the stall because they will poop in the food/water/hay wasting it. And Free shared a few posts back or somewhere that they do peck at the babies and mamas sometimes. The biggest problem with them getting in the pen is that they can't figure out how to get back out
I'm a little nervous about tomorrow because there is still no door into the barn from the goats' pen. AND we're expecting thunderstorms all afternoon so it may be dicey getting it done today.
I have shavings so I will put some down before I put down the straw. Thanks for the advice!!
Can't check my home email from this computer so I don't know if Paul has gotten back to me with a time yet.

DH went straight to the doctor after school. He's on antibiotics for strep. Poor guy. Now he's out trying to finish the doors since I am picking up the "Saanerhaslis" at 4:30 tomorrow. The vet says they're 30lbs now so I think my mom and I can handle them. I hope. DH is now toughing it out and finishing the doors. I still have a hay feeder to build but I'm set to do that and can do it inside tonight if we can thunderstorms. I need spread shavings and straw in the stall.
We'll be finishing up details all weekend.
While in the waiting room at the naturopath's office this afternoon I heard the massage therapist say to the receptionist, "my daughter called me, she thinks she blew out her ACL and wanted to borrow my brace, so I loaned it to her and she called me this morning and I couldn't hear her so I asked what she was doing and she was out walking around the barn" breath.... "I asked what she thought she was doing up and walking and she said the brace felt so good she was able to and she had to feed the chickens and goats anyway and then all of a sudden she says 'oh a goat just jumped over the fence and is in the woods. I'll call you back" When she was done I asked what kind of goats and she just blinked at me and said, "I don't know, goats!"
The naturpath is very excited that we are getting a milk goat and is 100% behind the idea of trying DS on goat's milk to see how he does. :fl

I thought it might be quicker than typing Saanen/Oberhaslis but not really....
Mom and I go off to get them at 4:00 tomorrow. They are about 30 lbs each so I am hoping the two of us can handle getting them to the pen.
The interior of the barn is "done" and I hear the saw cutting through tthe barn wall for the exterior door. I'm a little afraid to look. I know DH isn't happy about cutting up the building he worked so hard on. :hide

LOL, someone on BYH suggested Sobers. Works for me!
Yes, we get the two Sobers tomorrow and the guy who has Donki needs us to get her ASAP, but he has limited computer access and doesn't check emails often. I'm waiting to hear from him when we can get her. I'm prepared to go up Saturday or Sunday. If I go Saturday and can't work around DS's baseball game I'll probably bring my dad. He'll love it!

Can't wait until I have my copy of my blood work results. I reviewed them with my naturopath today. HUGE differences! All from changing my eating habits. She was really impressed. I'll post more when I can share actual numbers. It was too comprehensive to remember specifics. But several things are now back in the normal range!

Sounds like you are having a great spring!

Don't worry about the chickens for now. The problems I had were around birthing and tender navels and hoohoos. Your goaties are all past that stage, but in a year you will want a chicken-free zone.

True! I'm so excited. :weee
We didn't quite finish the work last night. Nothing like working with power tools under tall trees during thunderstorms....
