FF my DH is like you. Open the house. In with the good air- out with the bad. When we get sick thats the first thing he does. I don't care how cold it is outside. But unlike you when its cold a few minutes won't work for him. He says he is freezing the germs to death. I told him the germs are alive and well but he is going to kill me one day doing that. ummmm. wonder if thats what he's after.

H23 glad you are feeling better. Maybe your DH will be better tomorrow. Hope so.

There is no way DH is letting me open any windows. I wish!! I'm sleeping on the couch. If the pug snores I'll put him on the bed with DH!!

DH is better and we're all home from school because of freezing rain. Hopefully it will change over to all rain because I need to get to the feed store!
Ugh, was just startled by a wailing child and DH saying, "Don't panic!" Blood dripping, terrified child- he was working on the train layout with Daddy and nicked a finger on a hacksaw blade. No idea why DH is letting him use one in the first place! <smack>. Anyway, a good washing and a bandaid later and I don't think we're heading to the ER in this mess for stitches. It's very tiny and not deep.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to do some housework. Blech.

Now Henrietta, how is the kid going to learn how to saw if he never gets the chance?!

I guarantee this little minor owie will give him a lifelong respect for the danger of a saw. In the future he will be a lot more careful and do a better job.

I have supervised lots of small burns, cuts and bangs while working with my kids. They are FAR better off to have somebody that loves them teach them how to do it right, than to never be allowed to do anything at all.

I have a friend, a very successful CPA as a matter of a fact, who was never allowed to saw, or hammer, or mow the lawn as a kid because it was "far too dangerous". Now as an adult he comes to my sisters farm and when he "gets" to help with something he is SO EXCITED!
We cleaned out an old shed and burned the trash and you would think he was at a party!

Now (sorry to say), his wife won't let him do "dangerous" things, like run a circular saw. Poor man! Give me a few scrapes and the knowledge of how to work ANY DAY!

Yep, Hen123, kids learn by doing. Sure, they'll get some owie's every once in a while. But, like FF said, it's worth it.

Blech. You and me both on doing housework.

LOL, okay, okay, point taken. He IS allowed to do things. I think what I should probably have said was, I didn't understand why DH wasn't doing a little closer supervising. Of course I was typing moments after the incident and I was a little crazed. I would have been fine if DH had set him up to work on what he was working on instead of just letting him take the saw and cut away at some styrofoam while sitting on the floor. Barefoot, in a basement where he really shouldn't be barefoot. sigh

I just ordered my Thanksgiving turkey!! No, not to raise myself but from a local farm. We split a share of a local CSA farm with my parents. We'll get chickens, grass fed beef and pork and produce in season, and a turkey. We chose a heritage breed although they have both. I'm so excited! They also have eggs if my girls should stop laying at any point.
