The Eastern Bluebird is the state bird of Missouri. I have lived here my whole life and have probably only seen a dozen bluebirds - ever. :(

I guess they don't like big cities or pollution.
:( is right. I'd have to do some reading, but I think it was back in the 70s there were a lot of people putting up bluebird houses trying to attract them. It took a while but they have made a comeback. I don't think I ever saw one until I was in my late 20s.
My robins are back out there this afternoon. They are our state bird here in CT. :)

DH and DS tapped the maple in the front yard after church this morning. It's wearing two buckets. We have permission to tap two of the maples on the church's property also. Might do a few at my parents' house as well.

Wish I had some trees to tap around here. I only have a couple of very small red maples in my yard. :(

Must be something in the air w/the bluebirds. I saw 3 the other day. I hadn't seen one in months! FF, if you're ever up this way, LMK. I know where you can probably see a bunch of bluebirds.

We only have the one and I wish we had more. Dh is willing to drive across town to the church to collect the sap every day. I'm not so energetic. Now Mom's not sure we can even get out to where her maples are growing, there's so much snow and ice! Phooey!
Owls are out and calling now. Mating season is here.

Oh yay! It's snowing!!
If only it was snowing hard enough to keep me home from my dentist appt. Time for another filling to be redone. I just got over the OW from the last one! And my paycheck last week was the pits so I really should have canceled again. Actually I'm just scared that this tooth has been worked on quite a bit and she may destroy it trying to save it. I'm not usually a dentist chicken. Not anymore anyway. But I DON'T WANNA GO!
I want to stay home and keep on this decluttering rampage. I am clearing off the table in the basement where I will start my seeds. It happens to be where a bunch of half finished and unstarted sewing projects have landed. Nothing terribly exciting.
We are having 3 couples over for dinner Friday night to celebrate DH's birthday. When I scheduled this it would have been a vacation day but now we will be working. I'm looking for an easy main course that I can either do in the crock pot or when I get home. I'd love to do a ham but I'm not sure if one of the guys eats pork. Better send out an email. Between DS who will be eating with us, me, one woman who is GF and doesn't eat beef, one guy who doesn't eat cheese, one who can't eat any nuts or seeds..... I was going to roast a turkey.
Better get to the rest of the chores. Oh it is fun walking to the barn on a slight decline with snow covered ice. Wheeeeeee!

Happy early Bday to your DH!

Whenever I have lots of people coming over for a meal I either do pulled pork BBQ or some baked pasta dish. The pasta dish is so easy since you can do it all the day before then just keep frigerated until about an hour or two before they come over.

Is it more of a sit down at the table meal or is it a serve yourself and find a place in the room meal? A turkey sounds like a big table meal, so if this is a more formal occasion, then that sounds like a great meal.

I tried to will this snow away but it didn't work.

Given the food constraints you could do the turkey ahead as a BBQ turkey shredded or otherwise. GF pasta could be used for the pasta salad.

Heard back from everyone. I going with the ham. I could do the turkey ahead with a little planning though. Pasta is out for carbs and DS. No pasta that he can eat. :( We will have sweet potatoes as a side (friends are bringing those) and big green salad. It's going to be a grab a plate and drink and find yourself a spot kind of meal. Small house and no dining room! I can't fit all the leaves in our table. It seats 12 but I haven't been able to do that at this house. It was my great grandmother's and I knew it at my aunt's house in her big formal dining room. So we'll park where we can.
STill snowing lightly but not enough to keep me home. Rats.

Why don't you turn this into a fun day and make the dentist give you laughing gas!?!
 Good idea! But I should probably get something done when I get home. Sigh......
