Ugh! Overslept.....what a shame, it's only going to get up to about 75 degrees today. Showers though. We may still get in a short hike. If I ever get moving....
I haven't let the birds out yet. We've been kicking ducks out of the pen then letting the older chickens and younger chickens out into the pen together. They're all getting along fine. Haven't seen our stalking hawk lately but I'm not taking chances. Twice yesterday George the rooster sent out a warning call. I went tearing out there to see what was going on. Neighborhood cat wandering around but no hawk. George is such a good rooster!

George sounds like a keeper of a Roo!
Agreed!! He was actually my least favorite of the three we hatched. (3 chicks from 8 eggs-all roos! Turned me off from hatching!) Anyway, one was a sweet little mixed breed, modern game and I can't remember what the other half was, it will come to me after coffee....) We didn't think we'd be able to keep him from flying off into the woods. I gave him to a BYC member and guess what he did.... disappeared days later. I was heart broken. The other roo was a Sicilian Buttercup/silkie. He was gorgeous but he turned mean on me. He went to live at a local farm. George stayed by default. He was the least friendly as a chick, kind of funny looking. But I tell you, he is everything a rooster should be. He calls his girls over when there are treats and lets them all eat first. He warns if there is anything nearby that he considers a predator whether it is the hawk, the cats, a mourning dove..... But he did help save my Henrietta from the hawk. DS heard his cry and went running and scared the hawk off. Henrietta was missing a lot of feathers but she is fine now. He is a great roo! My first, I've only ever had hens being in a neighborhood situation. No one has complained yet and several have said they love listening to him. Here is my favorite picture of him:

He's very handsome, even if he is a mix!

And I can see why they thought he was a splash! He is colored a lot like my Blue Splash Silkie, Emmy!

I think someone called him a really bad splash....

Went out for a quick hike between raindrops. It's mostly just spitting. Cooler but humid and buggy. We found three letterboxes. Indy's first time going letterboxing. He did great!
Ran a few errands. Got a new day planner for school. :/ Ran into the bilingual Speech Pathologist from the district at Staples. We'll be sharing a room since I'm being moved to her school. Came home to find my welcome letter from that school in the mail (I'll be in two different schools this year.) It lists my days there, but I don't think that's correct. I emailed my boss and my supervisor to clarify. Got an email back that the boss is out of town until Monday.
Gah! Puppy is teething! Doesn't want to eat what he's supposed to eat just everything else. I'll be glad when this stage is over.

Just got an email from my mother that some homes that have long standing flooding problems on the street where I grew up may be torn down. They lived in a house on this street for roughly 40 years before moving out here. My brother and I grew up in that house, in that neighborhood. The development was built in 1963.
At this point we have no way of knowing which houses may be torn down, but it almost doesn't matter. The whole neighborhood has sentimental meaning in a way. I'm finding myself having a tough time processing this. Weird too, that I was just thinking of my grandma's farmhouse that burned down after she sold it and it was sad I could never drive by it again. I'm really kind of surprised how much this is getting to me. Especially considering what some of you are going through house hunting...
sorry, just need to sort it out a bit.

The house that I grew up in was torn down after we moved out of it. I still have weird dreams about walking around in that house or living there. It has always bugged me that I could never see it or go back.

Oh, I'm glad you get it! It's not a spectacular house, but I spent all of the childhood that I can remember there. And it was a really fun neighborhood to be a kid in. Lots of kids. Seems like it was one big backyard, all connected. No fences. We went out to play on a summer morning and showed up for dinner. Someone's mom fed you lunch at somepoint. The elderly couple across the street always had popsicles (homemade!) Sigh....
