I can't stand screaming children of any age. Can't. I know, I know! I have no kids and thus have no right to protect my EARS. Fussing, or a small bit of crying, yes. Screaming, NO. Parent's tend to spend hours and hours at JoAnn's. If their kid gets tired or hungry or whatever, they never leave the store. No, fabric is more important that that.

Some people's blogs say that they only have to do one wash, but that seems like a lot of sitting, even if you change the water. Two is more like it. I'm going to time it so that I can do other laundry with them.
I am with ya girl, on the screaming kids. My mother would NEVER have put up with that, not for one second. And we were never allowed to so much as touch ANYTHING when we went into a store. Boy, would we get it if we did. We all survived spankings, and I think I'm fairly well adjusted......ok, I'm a little weird, but not because I was required to behave as a child!

As for the pads....If you use cotton for your materials, you may find that everything is "less." Less flow, less days, less pads. I planned, originally, to use store-bought when I travel. My first trip with a need for pads, I brought both and an extra ziploc freezer bag. I quickly hated the store-bought pads, and decided to try the homemade, with the others packed just in case. I figured the pads might just go straight into the trash when I got home after six days with no soaking or rinsing. Imagine my surprise when I opened that bag and....everything was just fine. Read between the lines here. It may not be everyone's experience, but I will never go back! SOOOO worth it!

Hope you experience the same relief!

Freemotion- Yeah, my parents wouldn't have allowed it either. One of my absolute FAVORITE stories is about my dad's friends who had a little boy. When this little boy was with his parents, he was a terror! Wouldn't listen, would talk back, the works. When he was with my dad, he was an angel. The first time he mouthed off, my dad sent him to my room (no tv!) and then he didn't misbehave much around my dad. The lesson I learned was that my dad follows through. The little boys parents would threaten all sorts of things, but would NEVER follow through on those threats. "I'm only going to tell you once!" Yeah right!

I've only had one month on 100% homemade pads, so I think it's too soon to tell for me. Although of course I hope that everything will be lighter and better!

Haha, I tried to cancel my cable tv today. It turns out that if I do, my internet will go up about $10 per month. (bundling!) So I kept limited cable, and my internet is still the current price. And so instead of $88 per month for basic cable and internet, I'll be paying $65 for channels 1-29, and internet. Actually it works out alright, because I mostly watch local channels. And if I canceled tv altogether I'd be paying $57 just for internet! Anyway, the total savings is $23 per month. Not too shabby. Also, my current rate of $88 is a promo and ends soon. It would have gone up to over $100! The rate of $65 is not a promo, it's all the time.

It won't take effect until Monday when I turn in my cable box, though.

I understand the screaming kid issue and my two oldest kids would never have gotten away with it. My youngest though with her disability and high stimulus to everything and high anxiety will sometimes scream and scream and scream and sometimes I have to take her to a store. I try to hurry but I would never spend hours in there. I run in and get the bare essentials and get out. I hate taking her but what option do I have once in awhile. Her medication is helping. I can't believe a person would spend hours in JoAnn's and let their child run the store. :barnie

HennyPenny - Have you considered looking into satelite? We pay $19.99 for 50 channels (dish network family pack) and then pay $4.99 for our locals. Now, our household has HBO too but if don't need it, don't get it. We go through Dish Network and have for years (my husband and I both worked for them in the past) but DirecTV is also out there and they have a family package as well for around the same price. If you were to go with either of these companies, you could save around $30. Even with the loss of the bundling, that would ultimately save you $20.

We get our internet through the phone company (AT&T). I pay about $65.00 per month. Then we get our TV through a Netflix TV box. The box (which hooks computer to TV) cost about $100 one time. After that I pay $10.00 per month, which enables us to download literally 1000 s of TV shows and movies AND get one DVD at a time from Netflix by mail.

So I have good TV phone and internet for $75 per month.

Farmfresh, I will have to look into that netflicks tv sounds good!

We use an internet telephone company called www.teleblend.com

I pay $15.95 per month for phone service that includes free long distance in north america. Its a good deal! Much better than vonage or qwest or comcast.

Hum. My tv/phone/internet will be about $83 per month. I don't think that's too bad. I do have netflix, and I know about the streaming to my tv thing... If I count neflix I pay $100 per month. I love my movies though. The reason I don't have instant to tv is because none of the shows I wanted are available. More are being added, so maybe sometime I'll like this option better. I could cut costs even more, like going with the cheaper phone service, but mine is only $3.00 more. And it was such a hassle to switch last time, that I really don't want to deal with that now. I think I'm doing alright. :D Hey, saving $23 a month for a year is a total of $276!
