The science that drives mainstream USDA food pyramid type eating, hurt my body beyond belief.
And I know that goes for so many on here.
Well yes, I am in this camp. But the stuff we were told from weight watchers, on tv and in magazines that promoted a low fat, high carb diet wasn't really science. The science behind it wasn't science. It was a lie and fraud. One of the main culprits in this was Ancel Keys. This site shows how he "massaged" the data to get to the conclusion he wanted....that saturated fat caused heart disease.

that is key---it is your camp

my camp is way different. I lost 70 lbs on LA Weight Loss which is just like Weight Watchers and have kept it off for over 3 years.

So yes, everyone must find their own camp and how foods work with their bodies. I eat everything in moderation and lost weight and now eat everything in moderation and keep that weight off.

so yup everyone, find your camp lol

editing for spelling cause for some reason I sure can't type this morning lol

Fair enough, but remember that isn't SCIENCE telling you that -- it is special-interest groups and activists.

Science does not TELL anyone anything. It is a process, a set of methods, not a voice or agenda.

Just like anything else <shrug>, it is not always used intelligently or evenhandedly. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater though.

FC, you were very blessed to not have Metabolic damage. That is why it worked for you, and will continue to do so.

those overweight sick people.....do they really tell ya what the dietician recommends and do they really eat the better foods etc? I am sure dieticians are not recommending they eat that solely....geez maybe they could mix in some veggies in that diet ya know lol
I doubt that dietician is saying eat choc chips cookies for breakfast, have a big old salad for lunch and then have processed mac n cheese with big chunks of white bread for dinner

remember everyone wrote---people lie about what they eat, get good information to eat foods, then don't----most overweight people (and this is in general now, not everyone) do lie about what they eat.
No one is monitored 24/7
so....

just saying lol
Yes, they do tell me what the dietitian tells them...and I believe it is accurate from talking to dietitians myself. Because of my field, people give me details of their health and lifestyle that they wouldn't tell others. So I hear a lot.

I have a friend who was in an accident and reacted badly to the pain meds, ended up losing a lot of weight...in a bad way. One of her docs sent her to a dietitian. It was a joke. She actually told her she'd get a serving of fruit by eating a serving of Raisin Bran for breakfast! My friend said, what, the four dried up raisins I might find in one serving of cereal counts as a fruit? She was being sarcastic. The lady didn't catch it, insisting that yes, that was a good food choice.

We have two good friends that are dietitians and currently working in the field. We don't discuss food or diet. They go by current "science." One of them is older, thin, and VERY unhealthy. I could go on and on but that will do for now!

We are talking about 2 different things Farmerchick. The science behind the weight loss and how you apply it are two different things. Ancel Keys, the man who changed the entire direction of nutrition 30 years ago was a lying sack of crap. Fact. The fact that following advice derived from his crap effects people differently is also fact. People like me and Bubblingbrooks got fat. Others get stomach disorders or cancer.

That people can lose weight and regain health by different methods is also fact, but it doesn't change the actual events that started the whole thing.

By getting to the bottom of the problem, a person can then make reasonable intelligent choices as to how to fix things. The issue is we are still be lied to about what causes our metabolic issues in the first place.

Many will still insist that fat people are liars or really bad at math, not the the advice they are given on weight loss and health has no actual basis in science.

I know Free
there are some serious idiots out there in every field lol
you seem to have a few around ya'll :p

but I won't throw all dieticians recommendations out the window either cause I gotta say...many a dietician have helped many people

I know each circumstance is so individual it makes it super narrow to discuss ya know......

I think that is basically the problem in these threads which get so freaking old to read now, it is soooooo individual and individual situations that it can't be discusssed truly "in general"
