I can walk to a dollar store from my work, so I'll look for some powdered lemonade. I also get some produce from there. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays they get in fresh produce. I like to get lemons, limes, oranges, and sometimes I score with some strawberries. Some things are more than a dollar, like the strawberries, but still very good deals. I can make homemade lemonade much cheaper this way.

I'm almost out of Cascade! :hit Does anyone know about buying really cheap dollar store dishwasher soap, and cutting it with the homemade? I can't now because I have the tablets, but if I bought a powdered kind and mixed it all up... Hm.

HP, how much is the lemonade mix and how much do you use per load? Just trying to figure out if it is cheaper than citric acid or even real lemons. Is it the one with sugar in it, or no?

Always thinking.....and planning.....and scheming.......and saving!

My Dollar Store had containers of powder that were about 2 cups of the lemonade powder mix (faux Country Time Lemonade) for $1. I take aprox. 1/2 cup of mix and mix it with about 3 or 4 cups of cheap phosphate free diswasher soap from Aldi's. I mix it well in a plastic repurposed mayonaise jar and use enough of this powder mix to fill the little cup with the door each time I wash dishes. I never use the little cup without the door which is for presoaking. I think the lemonade mix hac citric acid in it which is probably why it works.

Oh, that is pretty cheap! Worth looking for! No dollar stores near me, but along my regular routes there are a couple.....time to renew that experiment....

I don't use cascade. I use Everday Living dish soap. Its pretty cheap but I have had to use stuff in the rinse cycle like jetdry, but I get a generic.

Everyday is pretty cheap and when its on sale I stock up. I wonder if I can make it for cheaper....Have to pay more attention to this.

Could you not just put your citric acid in the rinse cycle? Make it into a solution and fill up that dispenser that dispenses over many loads where the jetdry goes?

Dishwasher and dish soap the only things that I haven't been able to bring myself to make--I have OCD, I have come past many things with work and time, but that is one thing I can't do YET. I am playing with the idea of EO orange or lemon or tea tree oil with some peroxide--in something. Carolyn

If your afraid of germs and want to use a natural product I think that this would be a good choice. I've been thinking about getting some but haven't yet. I've heard that the d-Limonene (scroll down) can be taken orally and even gets rid of some diseases but I'm not ready to vouch for it.

and what to use it for: http://www.citrusdepot.net/applications.html

Thanks for this thread, I bought the faux country time and Im looking for phosphate free dishwasher soap today while I was at the market. As far as the phosphate free stuff, you are using the powder version right? All I could find was liquid 7th generation. I didn't buy it until I know for sure.

The phosphate free detirgent I use is a powder. I got it at Aldi's. It was their "Reeva" brand which is realy cheap. Check the dollar stores like "Dollar Tree" and see if they carry dishwasher detirgent. It is not necessary that it be phosphate free, mine was and I found that I needed to add the faux Country Time to get rid of the white film that was left due to no phosphates and my hard water.

I looked for lemonade powder at the dollar store, but they didn't have any. Since I'm out of Cascade, I picked up the dollar dishwasher detergent. I'll try equal parts of all the ingredients and see how it goes. It has "trace or incidental" amounts of phosphates. I dunno how much that is, but not much? Anyway, I haven't tried it yet but will let you know how it turns out.
