The problem is for deer hunting. All those oils will alert the animals, so it's not a good solution. However, the lotion with just neem oil may work.

I love venison, so a good solution to this problem works for me as well.
Does neem oil have a scent? I do have scent killer. Who doesn't love venison?!

Neem oil stinks to high heaven for about an hour, then the smell dissipates. It's a natural smell tho, so shouldn't hurt.

Who doesn't love venison? Those who don't know how to properly butcher and cook it. DH was that way, until he met me. We butcher "Grandma's way" and he loves venison now, only tolerated it before.

My S.S. teacher says that venison is too gamey for him but bear meat is tastey.
I don't get that.

I see a couple essential oils I plan on trying. I live in Missouri and there are tons of ticks here. Last time I went hiking I got over 30. Thankfully only a couple actually bit. Are there any states or areas where there aren't many ticks? If we move in the future I would definitely consider that area.

Here's my addition:

Catnip Mosquito SpraySpirits in the Garden
2 cups catnip leaves
1 cup apple cider vinegar

Place in a blender and whiz into a slurry. Pour into a jar and store for 1-2 weeks. Strain and put into a spray bottle. Apply as needed to ward off mosquitoes. The addition of 10 drops of eucalyptus, lemon grass or citronella essential oil would strengthen the repellant (and make it smell better!). Shake well before spraying.

It reeks! I can't really comment on its effectiveness since the only time we used it the mosquitos were so bad that even the DEET users were getting eaten alive. Anyway, it's really cheap and I've read that lemon balm and catnip are supposed to be good bug repellers.

The most effective bug repellent I've ever tried was also the stinkiest....Skin So Soft by Avon! I hate the smell of that stuff! My brother was stationed in Alaska and he said the military would order this stuff by the case to use for the black fly season. I don't know what is IN that stuff but it seems to work.
