I guess my question for Scott is, do you believe that a person who does not share your political views can be self-sufficient?

After all, that was the topic introduced by the OP. You have been very generous in sharing your views with us but I am not sure you have answered that question directly. If you have, I apologize.
Scott, you have expounded on your views repeatedly but have never touched on the original topic. I ask my question again.
Yes, that is the dangling question that I'd like to see answered.

Progressives want to change it back and forth just to meet their whims.
Citation needed.
Yeah, I keep having those "whims" that say that though I have ovaries I should still be able to vote!!! ;)

I am sure others would prefer that I not......

I agree that it is a good thing.....but how does that help farms be more self sufficient?
If you are trying to suggest that relying on a power company or other entity to buy the wind power is not *self* sufficient, ALL farms rely on people buying their products to make a living.

Doesn't matter if you are selling corn, vegetables, cattle or wind energy, you NEED other people buying it to pay land costs, taxes, make a living. How is this not self sufficient?

I always thinks it's cool when people bogged down in a sucky system find new ways of making a go of it.

I am not trying to suggest anything. I simply asked a question.
That is what I asked...

Very exciting! Helps farms/communities/states be more self sufficient rather than relying on imported energy.

Maybe I should have put the emphasis on your word "more" ?

It is interesting the demands for people answering other people's questions on here.....yet they don't reciprocate in kind. ;)

I have asked you the same question twice. And I will reciprocate any way you want.

Do you think one must share your political views in order to be self-sufficient. That is going back to the original question posed by the OP.

Aw, but one must simply read to find the answer. ;)

Asked and answered. It is MORE self sufficient to maintain your farming business, even if farming out wind power, than it is to lose your farm and depend on someone else to hire you for a job.

These semantic arguments are driving me a little nutty, this nitpicking over each and every word. Please. I get to listen to my kids do this all the time. Here, I'm hoping for more adult conversation.

If you were not implying that wind power is not a move to SS for those farms, then what *was* your point?

And you have been asked the same question repeatedly and have still not answered, which is fine, but then don't hold other people to different standards of etiquette.

I have read this entire thread and have not seen you answer that question. Are only people of your political persuasion entitled to think of themselves as self-sufficient.

And by extension, I guess, what about those who do not share your political bent and still like to strive for self-sufficiency. Are they posers or merely delusional?

I always wonder this one, too, when someone on this forum asks how certain views and SS can possibly go hand in hand. I'm thinking, "What, am I lying? Am I really not growing my own food, canning, making soap, etc. etc.?" I mean, people of all views ARE doing all these things, so where's the question?

There's another thread on here that I haven't bothered to search for, but basically the question is "WHY are you working towards self sufficiency?" It would be a good one to read again, to see the myriad reasons a person does so.
