Hopefully people will become more and more aware of these situations :hu

But I never could understand why people get upset over something like refusing a snack. If someone says no to something because of________, or even if they don't give you a reason, who cares? If they say they can't then they can't. Why become offended b/c of it?

Ugh, definitely bring your own food and let her deal with it. I go through this with people at our church who insist on trying to provide snacks they think my son can eat then get MAD at me when I say no.
Yes, folks have done that with DD14 who is only intolerant to MSG, but her reactions were severe enough to warrant total avoidance. Her GRANDMOTHER even...until she gave her something she wasn't supposed to have and her whole face swelled up, THEN she "got it" :smack They just thought I was being mean to her  Some folks really can be idiots...

I am concerned about the attitude and pushiness. I will take my own food. My attacks feels like panic attacks too, but then it is extremely hard to breathe...nevermind the fact that it also triggers my asthma, which is VERY dangerous. I'm just a big ole chicken when it comes to strange food. My main concerns are cross contamination and plain old carelessness. It's just not worth the risk to me.

:woot She has reluctantly given up  Just got another email from her...FINALLY backing down. All is a go WHEW...I was about to be very short and tell her I wasn't going at all if I couldn't bring my own foods. Thank goodness she backed off after the 4th email. I really did not want to be mean, and I know her heart was in the right place, just ...so frustrating having to explain a billion times!!

I understand. I tell people don't make a fuss or change a menu. I will just bring something with extra to share.

Just me, but I probably would have, after a while, jsut said ok, whatever, and then brought my own food anyways. Then when you went to eat your own food and NOT HERS, and she questions you about it, simply tell her you told her you would only eat your own food. And then proceed to tell her, while you are munching on your food, that your allergy is severe enough, you simply CAN NOT risk eating something that might trigger it.

Stand firm. I've dealt with this type over the years and if I can get them to actually show me the recipe or the ingredient list, there is ALWAYS something on there that is a problem. When it is pointed out to them, they say something like, "oh, a little won't hurt!" Stand firm!

To the most insistent, I would ask if their budget allows for ambulance and hospital stay, and possible funeral expenses ;)

Yup, when I tell people DS is allergic and I avoid soy because it messes up my thyroid, I always add, "No one should be eating that stuff!"

Several years ago, no one was eating it. :/ Gotta wonder why they didn't consume so much of it then? They knew it was poison to the human body.
