I am curious: Who here doesn't use Wal-mart? Why??

I hate when people call it Wallie-World, reminds me of that lame-o amusement park on National Lampoons.
That's where that nickname CAME FROM! :gig

Never paid much attention to the Martha Stewart stuff. I just remember the cheap Kmart shoes that used to fall apart after about a week when I was a kid.
Wal-mart has those too but they last 3 weeks. 8.00 a pair. We used to call K-Mart K-F*rt.

Wow! Did this thread take off today!

I understand what Bee was saying about Walmarts coming into rural areas,...I live in WV also, were Bee is up north, I am down south. Our closest bigger town didn't have squat until Walmart moved in. Twelve miles away we have Walmart, Lowes, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, K-Mart, blah,blah,..blah. The place has literally boomed up in the last 10 years, and in turn it has become a much better place to live. There is more jobs, not $10 an hour, maybe $8 if your lucky, BUT, people here are making it on that. Our cost of living is very low though. Then there is other people who will not work for those wages and would rather sit on welfare and draw umemployment until it runs out than try to help themselves,...Ill stop there before I say too much. I am not a big fam of WM but here it has been a positive influence. Just saying,...

Well, that's something to think about, UTC. In some places WM actually has higher wages than the surrounding employers. By us, I suspect that may not be the case. I think the factories probably pay more than WM, but I'm not sure about that.

Anyway, it's good that it can sometimes actually benefit the communities it is built in. Around here, once Wal-Mart, Gander Mountain and Slumberland moved in (in a town of 10,000!), you could watch the stores in the downtown area shrivel up and die...

When I retire I want to be a greeter and give smiley faces to kids.

I have an elderly friend who does this! She's a big-busomed, short-statured, sweet old lady with her hair in a bun, and she busts people shoplifting all the time! Seriously, she's gotten awards or recognition for the amount of $ she has saved the store. :woot

My old dad is in his late 60's and he is disabled. The poor soul has nothing to do and he can't get around well. He stays soooo bored. I told him we could get him a scooter and he could get a job as a WM greeter. He is slightly tempered though,..he would probably try to run over someone with his scooter. :gig
