Your biggest problem will be talking for ONLY 5 minutes! Any of those topics can be an hour, easily! Have fun, and we want a full report!

5 minutes goes by REALLY fast. Write out what you want to say, then practice it out loud. Tell it to the dog, the cat, the chickens. Tell it until you can do it in your sleep. You'll be great!

I do a lot of speaking. Have a theme and for five minutes, no more than 3-5 supporting points. Introduction (what you are talking about...the theme), body of your talk (supporting points...who-what-why-where-how-etc....mostly what-why in your case) then the conclusion...a brief review and a call to action...how they can use the info in their lives. I wish you success in keeping any topic to five minutes!!!!

Farmers in India were told that GMO crops would give them better yields and many of them bought that seed instead of the traditional - open pollinated varieties. They can't save seeds from GMOs, and they are in worse shape financially than they started in.
They have a very high suicide rate among farmers there now, because they feel ashamed that they can't support their families and the situation seems hopeless to them. I'm sure that the seed companies probably painted a much rosier picture of incredible harvests and downplayed that the seeds had terminal genes and they would have to buy seed every year from then on. They probably donated, or charged much less for the first purchase also. Sort of like what drug pushers with a new potential customer.
I hope this was not offensive, but your friend probably mentioned GMO's because of this situation.

Cool! Good for you! :)

Maybe focus on what a normal person can actually DO? I mean it is all well and fine to hear 'you should eat this, you should not eat this, blah blah' but you are in a good position to share with the audience what that actually maps out onto in terms of daily shopping/cooking/eating and time use.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Yay :celebrate

Of course you can do this!

Free, that is an excellent outline :thumbsup

MTN....once you choose the few topics that you want to address, you will be good to go. In my opinion, kombucha and GMO may lose them. Personally my focus would be 1) healthy fats 2) increasing veggie intake 3) buying nothing with more than 5 ingredients 4) probiotics (yogurt/kefir). I would stick to things that are easier to grasp that don't make them feel overwhelmed. I really like Free's suggestion of ending with a call to action!

Good luck!
