I am speechless. I just got asked to give a 5 minute speech...

Tons of great ideas here, and I know you'll do just fine. :)

Hearing someone speak from the heart about a topic dear to her heart (you don't have to have all the answers, just get people thinking differently) is always interesting to the listener. I bet you'll have tons of people asking questions afterward :)

I'd focus on experience. Just tell them why you do what you do, and how you are going about doing it. I think you could even talk about meat and why your meat is different from what is sold at the store. Tell them a few stories here and there to illustrate. There are millions of stories on a farm. I just found a new one this morning, in fact.

Any way you go about it, you will be fine. It will be over before you know it. Your difficulty will probably lie in staying UNDER 5 minutes.

Best of luck.

When I'm starting a project like that, I start out first thinking about what major points I want to make. Freemotions suggestions would be an excellent way to decide what you want those points to be.

Then put the ideas down on paper and let your brain stew on the best way to say each thing. Write it carefully and make your wording as concise as possible.

Then practice reading your finished work.

When you get there, you may not use the pre-arranged speech, but the sentences will be formed in your brain as to how you wanted to make each point quickly, prevent rambling. Use a little cue card for yourself to prompt yourself in case you get a little stage fright so you know where to move next in your speech.

That technique has worked for me in similar types of things.

How exciting! I agree about the 5 minutes being WAY too short.

What sort of format is the speech in? Is this during a training at the workplace? Is it part of a much larger conference off-site? Is it just informal while the employees are at lunch? Is it something the employees are asking for or is it something the boss is interested in so he wants to pass on the info?

The reason I ask is will there be supporting information from other speakers prior to or following you. Is this something to just pique their interest or is it part of an ongoing education?

With a group that large, there will probably be several people who will want to follow up with you at a later point with their questions. You may want to think through a way for them to do that. Pass out business cards or share your e-mail or what ever works for you.
