I give up on SS living! I'm going to the store...

I think your chicken pooping blood has cocci...
I believe you are correct as well. I drove 40 minutes the other day to the feed store that carried some Amprol. So far :fl only one is pooing blood and everyone is being treated. I'm hoping things will start going on the up-swing :)

sorry to hear of your frustration - if it helps i think we've all had problems this season. my turks and meat chix got the cocci too - what a disaster. but the heat from the last couple of weeks has helped with the garden.

have you been on the BYC site for help with your hens?

i'm new to this property and the soil is miserable. i'm not expecting any good results until next year - until then i'm heading out to farmers markets, driving thru the amish communities, and watching craigslist for any cheap/freebies.

hang in there!

molasses and cinnamon in thier drinking water really helps strengthen thier immune systems. It is the only thing I ever use, but I never did have cocci

Sounds like my luck with things, none of my chickens are laying and my garden is done too, I have a couple of tomatos that might go ahead and ripen. At least you don't have compaining neighbors like I do too. My geese got out today while I slept(I worked last night) and I found them around two. Don't know how long they'd been out, but I'm suprised I didn't have someone knocking on the door. They (the neighbors) have been really keeping me stressed lately. Sometimes I wonder why I even try, but I am a very determined person who won't be beat easily. Btw do a search on byc, they have a ot of threads on cocci and what you can feed them that will help gt their strength back. I had it the year before last in 300 chicks that I was raising for meat and selling.

I feel your pain. :hugs

I'm a multiple project person myself. 100s of great ideas and very little time to see them through.

My garden is weed choked. I got it in late and didn't have time to weed regularly. The deer have managed to find the tomatoes. I'm trying a liquid fence spray, but the rain isn't helping with that. I do have lots of green tomatoes and no blight so far.

I planted okra. It didn't do well in the cool summer, and I've gotten just a couple pods. My zucchini usually does well, but it was a bust too.

I bought a cheese-making kit back at Christmas and still haven't done it. I bought cabbage at farmer's market to make sauerkraut and let it go to waste.

Celebrate the things you do accomplish and don't stress over what slides this year. :frow

I share your worm worries. I read all the vermicomposting books I could find, I made the worm bed, ordered some very expensive worms, followed the directions, and.......... they all died. I felt terrible. I don't know what I did wrong.

Now I'm scared to try again. I think I'll wait until I have rabbits and put the bins beneith their hutches. I've heard that is a good system.

Why do we do that to ourselves?? :hu I know I was looking at a cheesemaking book last night...thinking "Oh what a great idea!" Really?!?! Why on earth would I think it would be a great idea to take on cheese-making? Hope things start going a little our way for all of us...but I have feeling no matter what, we'll be right back at it :lau

How is the moisture in your bin? If it's too wet, they will try to escape. Are you feeding them enough? I neglected mine for a few months and lost alot. Now, they are on the rebound.
