Yes, roosmom, they do that. They told him he might be called back end of March or April. That's if he gets laid off for the two months that everyone else is. This MIGHT turn into a permanent position, which would be GREAT!

DH's secret dream has been to have his own tree farm. He has kind of started that in his free time last spring. He planted over 100 oak trees and maple trees (totalling like 360 trees) on our property. He lets them get so big, then he transplants them into pots, and plants them pots and all into our garden.

This past spring he dug up four potted cherry trees and sold them at 4 foot tall for $10 each! No complaints here on that! Especially since we had no costs in it...that was 100 % profit! The trees were babies from our Cherry tree in our yard. Pie Cherries is what people around here call them.

So now we are looking at pricing more trees. He can get 500 spruce saplings for $100.

Most of the trees he is growing here now are ones he started from seeds.

My husband is TRULY a green thumb!

I hope it works out!
I had an uncle who had an overrun tree farm in Upstate NY. I'm not even sure if they ever even sold trees from it! I was only ever there in the summer but I have fond memories of being woken up by my older cousins and running around between the trees in my pajamas, barefoot, catching fireflies. They loved the trees!

That would be great, a regular job, and one he likes too! I hope it works out and things go to permanent year round for him also!

HE'S GETTING OVER TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK won't be over time THIS week, but he will have 32 hours this week since they asked him to work 8 hours today instead of 4 (normally work 4 hours on Saturdays!)

They ALSO offered to let him work tomorrow, it's optional, but DH and I both thought, OK he needs at least ONE day off, because that would mean he would have to work all the way up until NEXT Sunday without a day off.

Then next week, starting Monday, they are going to be working 9 and a half hour days instead of 8 and a half hour days! So that will give him 14 hours over time this next week!!!

Don't know if that will continue until the season is done, or what, because he said they are only doing that right now because they are behind schedule getting those trees out.

They took $10,000 worth of Christmas trees out yesterday...can you imagine making that much money selling TREES?! *thud*

What a blessing-qa: imagine on-the-job training for your own future business.

and keljonma-
"When my DH found out he was hypoglycemic, he passed out. He has to carry protein with him to eat mid morning and mid afternoon. DH usually carries granola, PB crackers or cheese with crackers with him at all times."
I know it, I knew it, I knew it- crackers and cheese is health food. HA!

OK well some changes have been made, for the better I think.

The two guys DH was carpooling to work with and they have a bit of a problem with an illegal substance. DH didn't know this when he first started riding with them. Well, we were concerned that if they got pulled over DH would go down the tubes with them just for being in the vehicle, even though he doesn't use or own any of the stuff.

DH doesn't even work on the same crew as these two, as everyone on their crew uses the same stuff and DH doesn't want to be around it, and the crew leader DH works with won't let anyone who uses that stuff on his crew. So this crew boss claimed DH for his crew, and since DH has proven to be a good worker, won't let him work on any other crew but his own, which bodes well for being called back come spring!

So DH told his concerns about riding with carpool to work. Crew boss found another guy close to us (5 miles to be exact) that is on the same crew, and that guy agreed DH can ride with him :) All DH has to do is drive the first 5 miles to meet co-worker.

Now, here's the strange part! His normal carpool LEFT WORK WITHOUT HIM on Saturday!!!! Another crew worker brought DH home. We forgot to call the first two guys to tell them DH is carpooling with someone else, so I told DH I would just tell them when they pull in the drive. THEY NEVER CAME!

So I am not sure what happened with them, but even though it is on their way to stop, I am glad they didn't stop.

Now DH feels safer riding to work, too, and I feel safer knowing my DH won't be in trouble for something he isn't doing!

Oh and his boss, the crew leader I mean, has offered to come and help dig us out a pond with his dozer in the spring! We are super excited about that!
